fuel filter
fuel filter
I am having a prob with my 95 maxima when I come up to stop signs my cars "jerks" it only does it when I idle and a little bit when I am going 40 and also when I am in neutral i changed the spark plugs thinking that my fix it it helps out a lil maybe I need to change my fuel filter? anyone else have any ideas please help I hate "the JERK"

Is it automatic or manual? How many miles? Changing air filter is good but it does not have anything to do with you problem. Fuel filter is one of the first things you can do,"if it has a lot of miles on it". It sounds like you might be loosing one of the spark plugs or even a "cylinder". Check the spark plug cables if you haven't replaced them yet with new spark plugs.
I have replaced all of the sparkplugs are you talking replacing the wires also? and we are dealing with a Auto maxima with 138,000 miles. also does anyone know how to change the fuel filter never done it before. could anyone maybe tell me about how to do it or post a link?
UPDATE!!!
I changed the fuel filter and it runs a lil better but it still jerks at idle speed and in N also when I am going 40 at 2nd gear (I think).
if anyone can post any links or anymore input that would be great!!!

I think you are suppose to replace the wires when you put the new spark plugs in. It is only recommended especially if you have not done so with so many miles.

another UPDATE, HELP!!!
well, I changed sparkplugs changed fuel filter. just cleaned out the TB, IACV I might see if i can get the IACV tested to see if its working but I don't think that may be the issue, would anyone know what else may need to be done please HELP!

You have a missfire.
The cause can be from your coil packs, which should set the check engine light.
A faulty or clogged injector may also be at fault. The injector may not set off your check engine light, especially if it's failing mechanically, the ECU cannot detect mechanical failures.

I believe I have been experiencing the same "jerk" that you are describing. I have changed my plugs, pcv valve, fuel filter, cleaned the throttle body, iacv and intake (all completely removed when I cleaned them). After doing all of this, the "jerk" was still there especially while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. So, I decided to get a transmission flush and replaced it with Mobile-1 Synthetic tranny fluid...still no change.
I then started adjusting the idle speed, since it was idling around 700-800 RPM. I found the lower I lowered the idle, the less "jerk" I noticed on shifting. Your idle adjustment is the large plastic black screw on top of the IACV valve. This screw only gives you approx 200-300 RPM adjustment though. You first have to adjust down the idle screw on your throttle body to get well within the idle range with the black IACV screw adjusted to the middle somewhere. I suggest you try to bring it down to around 550RPM to correct the "jerk" issue. This will then give you the ability to fine tune the idle with the black IACV screw between 450 & 660 RPM. Remember, let the car warm up to full operating temp, turn off all accessories (especially the air conditioner, turn off the car, adjust the black IACV screw to about centre, remove the first TPS sensor connector, turn on the car, adjust your idle with the throttle body screw to around 550 RPM and then tighten the adjusting nut, fine tune your adjustment using the IACV screw, turn the car off, reconnect your TPS and your done! I fine that the "jerk" goes away the lower the idle RPM is.
Hope this helps.

well the prob just got worst I claned out the VB and now insted of the jerking happening the car just dies when it idles i notice that the rpms jump around before it dies, so I gota put the car in N when I come to stop signs and red lights to keep it from dieing. also if I step on the gas the rpms will not go over 3,000 no matter how hard I push it, so I gotta drive with OD off but that only lets me go just under 4,000 rpms. but the check engine light is on now! so I am clueless to whats wrong

people on here are probably SICK AND TIRED of me saying "Mass Air
Flow Sensor", but, I'd check it out.
search for posts by me with "hesitate" or "jerk" and you'll find
that I had similar issues.
GOOD LUCK!

You probably have a bad coil pack, now read your CEL light to find out which cylinder.

well i got the ecu code 0304=Knock Sensor?
it usually hurts in the HorsePower side, drivibilty and fuel economy
side.
BUT, not sure how the KS can affect your car like your describing...
hopefully someone can help you out...
good luck,
