Automatic 4th Gen Tranny Questions

I hear that if you put aftermarket performance parts (y-pipe, headers, cat-back) in an automatic then its much easier to blow the tranny? is that true because if so i wont even play myself and get those mods. i don't really race so whats the point if it will just blow my tranny.

also just to clear things up, how much faster is a stick vs. automatic ... i heard in a quarter mile theres only a .5 second stick advantage... regardless of who starts off quicker,in stock condition they should top out at the same speed anyway... but with a racing chip who's faster???

only professionals for these questions please!!! if you don't know much dont reply because you will only confuse everyone ... just let the truth be told!

If you were to give everyone some insight as to what you are trying to accomplish we could give better feedback as to possible mods.

well im only going to make performance moderations just to do something to the car... i wanted to start off with a y-pipe and greddy cat-back exhaust... i don't want to change my transmission to manual though. but my main question is, will these modifications make me blow my transmission if i street race with them??? i don't really street race that much unless someone revs there engine at me

You will only have problems when you add some sort of Forced induction. Go ahead and mod!

I am sure you will be fine with bolt ons. A friend of mine has an automatic maxima with a supercharger running 10 lbs of boost and an 80 shot of nitrous. He drives the hell out of his car, and he has never had a transmission problem. Don't sweat it. Go ahead and start modding! Oh yea, he has a y-pipe and catback too.

ok im not a mechanic but when i got my car a year ago july, i researched parts untill november when i bought my first mod. from everything that i have read the y pipe and intake have not harmed anyones car in any way. BUT keep in mind a faulty part or install CAN harm your car. i recently bought a valve body mod for my tranny to make it less sluggish, everyone who has one has not experienced any problems and the mod is supposed to help prolong the life of the tranny. for whatever reason whether a falty part or a mistake i made during the install my tranny slips when it ingages in first from a stop. im still trying to fix it/have it fixed.

REMEMBER IF YOU WANT TO PLAY YOU GOT TO PAY.
there is always a chance you could mess something up, but my car is sooo much more fun to drive with the modifications i have done, especially compared to my gf's 2000se.

hope this helps sorry for the long post
good luck

forced induction or FI is: either supercharger/turbo charger/nitrous oxide

the valve body (vb) is what controls how the auto shifts....use the search and type "valve body upgrade"

Then why ask? Just kidding.
Small mods shouldn't harm the tranny, bad driving might (neutral drops, etc). And sometimes things just go.
