What do you 4th Gen guys think of the I30?

After my car was totaled I defected to the Maxima and have since been following this board and looking for a 4th Gen to buy. I wanted an SE with all the options. I happened to find a 96 I30 with really low miles and a 5speed. It's essentially the same vehicle as the Max, but I'm wondering what you all had to say about the I30? I tend to care less for it's styling than the Max's, but other than that what are the differences/plusses/negatives? All comments are appreciated. Thanks

Wow i'd definately take that! The 5 spd I30s are hard to find. Now don't quote me on this, but I think they have a VLSD

I'd take an I30 any day! Look at Mike's I30, its a beautiful car! Good luck...

The I30 has more luxurious features and I truely believe that modded its one of the most beautiful sedans on the market, i've owned 2 before without a hitch

the main thing i hate about the old i30 design is the rear, it really looks ugly with the light going across like that. the maxima distinguished itself in the 4th gen with the trunk, with the stylish maxima badge across a flat trunk

Go for it! With the 5-speed and limited slip you'll have some serious potential with that car. Besides, it sounds a lot cooler to say that you drive an infiniti than a nissan.

No don't get it.. They are really bad cars! Just let me know where it is for sale so that I can go get rid of it for you so that you don't have to think about it anymore

seriously... I drive a 97 automatic infiniti I30 and have had it for 1 year no w and love it like the first day I got it. They are GREAT cars.

I would get a 5-speed I30 over a max, but a auto max over an auto I30. I would agree that the rear of the I30 is not the best. But a few modifications can be done to clean them up.

Enh...they're ok.

Seriously though, I wasn't too crazy about the front and rear treatments, but they are fixable. With the rear, rears from a 98 I30 look cleaner than a 96-97, or you can clear out the orange like I did. For the front, Cefiro headlights are a must, as well as a Cefiro grill. The goods definitely outweigh the bad, especially, if the bad is fixable.

Im just not a ran of the looks of the I30 at all. Looks aimed toward the "older" generation. And the taillights going acorss the bumper are horrible.

However, VLSD is beautiful, as are some I30s kitted and such, they can look sharp, just takes more work to make an I30 look good versus a maxima IMHO...

let me tell for first hand. i previously owned a 1995 GLE, but i sold it, and went looking for a 5 speed. i found a 5 speed I30, and bought it. the leather is nicer in the I30, but thats about it. with a new grille, the 1 piece headlights, clear tails, and other small things, i think the I30 looks just as good as a max, if not better, since they are much more rare to see modded. check out my homepage for pics of my I30 (in progress).

GO FOR IT!!

Thanks for the comments, I've decided to get the car Do you guys think I'd be in a good position to trade for a 4th Gen Max if I happened to not like the I30 as much? I think I'll like it, but I'm not in a position to put $$ into the exterior, so that'd probably be the only thing.

dont trade!! the dealer will just screw you somewhere else. an I-30 will bring a higher price than most maximas with similar miles and age. use wheels and deals first.

(if you dont like the infinity)

why would you not like it. they're pretty much the same engine, etc. besides, you will be sitting INSIDE of it most of the time, and the inside of a maxima is the same.

well, i had a fully loaded 98 SE 5 spd and now I have a 96 I30 auto. only thing I miss is the 5 speed in the max. as a side note...not that it matters or anything, but i have noticed that chicks are much more impressed when i tell them i drive an infiniti as opposed to when i'd tell them that i drove a nissan. i know i'll catch a couple flames for that one, but its true.
