legal issues reguarding removing sidemarkers for red/clears
are there any legal issues when removing the sidemarkers doing red/clears?...not like a cop will give a ticket for it, but what if you were rearender and it was brought up in court?

Legally the tail lights should be able to be seen from the side or have a separate sidemarker light. The 95-96 tails wrap around far enough to be seen from the side. With the 97-99 tails if you remove the sidemarker they can still be seen from the side but probably not enough to be 'legal'. However I haven't heard of anyone having any leagal problems with red clears. It looks so 'stock' unless you knew Maximas most people would not think to question it. Personally I think the 97-99 sidemarker light looks out of place, like it was an afterthought.

Do you think if you had blackouts on your taillights or had them tinted dark and got rear ended. The person could claim that he could not see your break lights or turn signal though the tails and you could get screwed for it?

legaly, its illegal to change any of the lights/lenses to anything than what comes stock on the car. However, if you have the correct color blinkers that come stock, I dont think that would be a problem...I.E. Red/clears with amber turn signal bulbs...Clear DC's with amber bulbs..so forth and so on

I'd check w/ your own state's law/code on the matter. For example, in Texas we can legally have front turn signals that emit a pure white light, other states it must be amber or close to it. I think I saw in your profile you're from NC. Here's a link to info that will help you. The lighting section starts on page 41 (page number at the bottom of each page)
