Help you guys! Rpm's going crazy and car stalls.

Hi. First time poster, long time viewer. I have loved this forum for so long and finally took to the plunge to be a member. I have a 95 Maxima with 98000 miles on it. I have had the problem of my car shutting down within 15 to 20 minutes of driving. The RPM's will go all the way down to 100 and act like it wants to shut down and sometime it does. The car also feels sluggish on the highway as well. I did get a engine checklight for a knock sensor. I changed that, the pcv valve and the spark plugs. I have also had the throttle body cleaned as well. It seems to be burning a lot of gas in this rpm fluctuating state when I try to accelerate. Please help you guys as I am at wits end with this car. Thanks

MAF SENSOR - It's working, thats why your not getting a check engine light, but it's not reporting the correct air flow readings. ECU thinks the device is OK, because it doesn't realize (cause it cant realize) that the info it's getting from it is wrong.

Verify this by finding a friend with the same car and swapping MAF sensors. The problem should follow the MAF.

EDIT: The 0304 knock sensor code was most likely set because your engine is not running correctly.

I also had the TPS go at about 84,000 in my '95 5 speed. Gas mileage went down the toilet, car stalled on rare ocassion, and it took about six months to throw a code. Some of the earlier '95 5 speeds use a different TPS than the one shown in the above link (it's actually less expensive). Mine also caused the 0304 knock sensor code as noted above.

Thanks for the replies. My suspicions for the last two days has been the MAF sensor. But I will also have my tps checked out as well.
