LSD Tranny $895 !!! Rebuilt

Hey Guys, i was going to sell my car, but i decided to keep it (until I finish college .
The thing is i need a tranny as i have the dreaded bearing failure.
Right now in my 95 se I have a 96 I30t tranny (LSD) to replace the original tranny that had bearing failure, but guess what, the I30t tranny is plaqued with the same problem.
So i went onto ebay and i saw this auction that i am sure everyone has seen,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2422140604

but the thing is they have a rebuilt tranny buy now price of $895. I decided to give them a call as the auction also stated I30 & Maxima Transmission. He told me they had the I30 VLSD 5 speed for the same buy now price. I could not believe it.

My main question is has anyone ever bought a tranny from these guys (phoenix hardparts). Would like any feedback. Thanks

1995 Nissan Maxima SE (5speed - 175K miles).

They do know their stuff. I would have them verify the part number on the actually tranny. And if they can even find the old VIN number that it came from, that would be better.

With your old I30 tranny, why not just do the bearings yourself?

I thought all I30's came with automatic only?

Most I30's do, however there were the odd bunch that were built in 5 speed, and those have VLSD's. I've only seen a few people on this board with em.

Yes, a few of the 5-speeds do have them, specifically all I30T (T standing for Touring) 5-speed I30s did have them. Although they are LSD in a sort, they are truly only a 70/30 split of power, not 50/50 like a TRUE LSD.

Maybe only a 70/30 but over an open diff - definately improved!

If you think about it, Maximas (4th gens anyway) don't have equal length drive axles. Hence the torque steer, which is caused by one wheel getting more power than the other. I dont see how a 50/50 LSD would be beneficial in this case.

Just to clarify. If the I30 was a "T" model then it has VSLD. The "T" package or winter weather package comes with VSLD.

DO NOT BUY FROM PHOENIX!!! REPEAT! DONT BUY FROM THEM!!!!!!!!! Myself and another org member with 5 speed I30s w/VLSD have had the exact same problem with Phoenix. I'm sure I'm too late with this post, but I had to try. Go look in the dealership feedback forum, you will see the thread. Best of luck.
