Automatic with little low end ...Any ideas?

I've read many posts about intakes, tune ups, drop resistor, and different rims/tires. Well anyway i can barely cherp the tires from a stop. I have a short ram and mid pipe, stock 215/60/15, drop resistor mod, and recently had a tune up (pcv, oil change, O2 sensor, AT flush & filter change, spark plugs) and about 109,000 miles. What gives. Also my 0-60 seems to be about 8.5-9.5 sec. oh and i always use at least 92 oct. At 3,000 rpm the engine really kicks in, but cant cherp the tires in 2nd with or w/o the drop resistor mod. like others can. Anyway it just bugs me. Any ideas are apretiated.

You cant chirp without VB mod or ice into 2nd. Auto = ****ty power for chirping. If you wanna chirp get a 5spd. Also, drop resistor just makes it so you go past 120mph, you get no extra power.

Power brake to be faster 0-60. You should be around a low 7.1-7.4 0-60 stock man, so something might be messed, maybe get a new knock sensor???

how are you calculating you 60 times? jr is right good luck chirping second unless you have vb ice or water, and for ice and water you wont get a chirp just a lot of spin. the kick at 3k is normal since that is where we start to get some good power.

also you need a y pipe, and tranny cooler, especially if your going to run a drop resistor

good luck

Um, no. The drop resistor mod makes the trans shift hard. It is not the same as the speed limiter removal.

If you can't chirp with the drop resistor mod you will never chirp with the VB Mod. The VB Mod shifts at a higher line pressure than stock but the drop resistor shifts at FULL line pressure, it doesn't get any harder than that.

Also you cannot use the drop resistor mod for everyday street driving its WAY to harsh unlike the VB Mod.

Check your CEL - I bet you have a 0304 (the stupid knock sensor). I had the same symptoms. No power until 3000 rpm. I had the KS code all the time; it would always come back after resetting the ECU. I cleaned TB, did the tune up and all that good stuff, but saw no change until I changed the KS. It made a world of difference. Also, do not replace your KS if you have other codes; fix those first as they may cause KS code - if you still have KS code after you have fixed other stuff, replace it then.

Sell your autotragic and get a 5 speed.

But make sure you get a few spare trannys as well.

My buddy has the *EXACT* same problem. Replaced the knock sensor and the low end was back. 10-15' of rubber off the line no problem!

maybe you should try to switch your mid-pipe back to the stock reonsator. I noticed better low end response from that.

As far as i know, no knock sensor CEL i remember b4 i had a licence my dad could always light up the tires, and once I chirped the tires in 2nd. Oh I barely use the drop resistor, only at WOT, I do have a tranny cooler, and in my drive way I layed a 2 foot posi patch last week but never on the street. It's just missing the ***** it used to have. What are the specs of the knock sensor, ill check it any way. Oh yeah I timed my 0-60 with a stop watch about 10 times on different days. Ill also put the resonator back in just for ***** and giggles.

Just cut either wire going to the drop resistor, doesn't matter which. All you are doing is removing the resistance from the circuit. How each end of the wire you cut to a switch.

I have mine hooked to a WOT switch (thanks for the idea Zumble) so I don't have to remember to turn it on or off it just works all the time at WOT. You must have a normally closed switch for this to work because opening the circuit causes it to go to full line pressure.

Re: Automatic with little low end ...Any ideas?

If you want more lowend power buy some 5x114.3 14in rims with some 195/60-14 tires.

I am confused.. I have an 99 se (auto) and I can do a major peel out from a complete stop. Actually done it a few times and it scared the crap out of me, especially when I first got it. I go from 0-60 in 6.8 the only thing I have under the hood as far as mods go for performace are...

Frankencar Midpipe and cone filter
FSTB.
(that i know of, i bought the car used)

I use 93 octane and thats it.

Even when I put the car in 2nd and take off I still peel. not a chirp, I am talking peel out. either I got a good deal on my car, or I am just one of the lucky ones.

and whats this drop resistor mod you are reffering to?

i agree, my auto can lay down some nice rubber whenever i feel like it. As a matter of fact, i can spin the tires quite easily, and it happens sometimes without me meaning to.

All i have performance wise is the Injen CAI

Yes, it looks just like a WOT nitrous switch but it has an extra connector for the N/C (normally closed) connection instead of just the N/O (normally open).

I got mine at an electrical shop, looks like this but has 3 connectors total. http://www.slickcar.com/bigshot.asp?ProductID=1805

N/A just the 1-2 shift, with nitrous all of them.

its my understanding that even if you leave the car in second when you come to a full stop the car still downshifts into first.

second gear sucks when your going about 10-15mph very sluggish, part of the auto thing, ending up in the wrong gear

I get a KS code whenever a different code pops-up. I just had the air temp sensor code pop-up(tried the 47k resistor thing and got CEL, so I extended it to the front of the car right behind the grill and it went away). Before I had the O2 sensor code and the KS popped up again. It pops up with pretty much every code. Does it mean that my KS is toast? Where is a good place to get one???

Well i put back the original resonator. Now i can peel out again i made two 0-60 passes, a 9.5 (drive at WOT) then an 8.88 (drop resistor brake torque 1500 then WOT). I said this sux so i reset the ECU Knock sensor and Line Pressure Solenoid Valve (Automatic Transmission). Well then two more passes, an 8.2 (drive at WOT) then a 7.9 (1-2 at WOT). Well this is better considering i have only an intake. I tried one more pass 8.34 (drop resistor, 1-2 at WOT) Oh well. Also i tried to check my knock sensor but i dont know how to check the resistance. So in the end Autos and mid pipes suck on the low end!!!
