STS Short Throw Shifter ! Does it make any difference at all ?

Quick question for everyone out there with a Short Throw Shifter, or for anyone who is an expert on the subject.

Will installing a STS make the car faster? I notice in speed shifts, you get a bit of lag from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, and so on. Is this lag dramatically decreased with the help of a STS ?

I have heard it a Great MOD for the 5 speed owners...

thanks again

Yes it will help keep the revs from falling as much on shifts, but it won't really make the car any faster. The STS will help most for track events where you want to shift and get your hand back on the wheel.

the lag that we have on our trannys is not really from the long shifts, but from the transmission taking its time engaging a gear, even after the shifter is in gear. i've noticed sometimes when shifting to 3rd, theres a huge pause after i put the shifter in 3rd, and when the car actually engages the gear.

the STS will make your shifts a little quicker, but I think most people just get it so they dont feel like they're rowing a boat when shifting gears.

no noticeably increase in speed as in track time... even with the stock shifter on fast shifts..the max takes too long to take up the gear..so gettign a sts wont improve tract times cause it simple doesnt matter, how fast you can shift if you tranny cant engage fat enough. i think my clutch is bad. hopefully a new clutch will engage the gear faster but i duno.. sts sure as heck feels alot better though.. shifter isnt as loose, shifts feel tighter and more controled. feels more like a sports car.

Dude I've noticed that your into performance lately and trying to get the most out of your car...Take some advice, Buy a Variable Intake and a JTW ECU and never look back...Unless you have a 97+ then just get a VI

i just got the udp installed a few days ago, and I got a bit sidetracked with the cv boots leaking so i bought new axles and had them installed. raxles.com (yesterday)that money would have been at least close into putting me in the ecu club.. i could have bought the ecu and already have a good savings towards the reprogramming. but now that its all said and done i have three projects going now.

1. install the kit and paint ($$$) I have upgraded by bum suit and im really getting more 5's than 1's now. See post: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....hreadid=231815

2. New tires for my 16's. I knew it would happend, tires wearing out b4 I could upgrade to new rims, but at the prices ive seen . its going to be in my next life before im hanging with Ray and riding on VOLKS. im only willing to go up to 17's and the volks and ssr's are murder on a poor bums income. honestly i have no business trying to buy rims that our out of my range...if only i could find a rim as "light and cheap".

As for tires im going to get toyo t-1's in 225/50/16 . the toyo fz4 was a tiny 20 pounds a tire.. i thought, man this is it, until i read 340 horrible reviews in a row. why did they have to go and ruin it. that would have decreased my tire weight 20 pounds versus the tires i have now(kuhmo Supra 712's). im still wondering if i should try them. but if everyone complains the tire has no grip, traction, or chance...im sure i should stay away.

What other Japanese tires are good..?
