Removing trunk lid tension rods......?
Has anyone removed the tension rods that support the trunk lid when open and replaced them with struts or another way to hold the trunk open? I had to remove mine wthis weekend to install the new sub box and have some ideas, but I'd like to see if anyone has already done it. Thanks for the advice / help.

without tension rods, your trunk lid will feel like it weighs about 100lbs and obviously won't stay up on its own.
secondly, and most important, if you try and take off those tension rods because of all of the torque and pressure put on them if they come off wrong you could have a broken arm or worse.. it's a lot of tension.

I already have them off. And yes, they were under a lot of pressure. Not enough to break your arm, but a lot just the same. I'm now looking for solutions to replace them. And yes, the trunk weighs A LOT. Anyone have any ideas or done this yet?
