Should I buy this car??

Hi, my name is Ethan,
I'm considering to buy a Maxima right now, from my friend,
it's a 1995 Maxima GLE, has 132000 mile on it, and it's around $5300,
it's almost 10 years old, and it has 132000 mile on it, can anyone give me some suggest, should I buy this car?...
is it reliable? or maybe it's going to have all the problems and I need to pay all the moeny to repair all day long after I got this car...
thank you very much for your time and opinion.

Ethan

Abit too much for an old car friend bought a 1999 GLE with same milage for $7,500 and now he paid like $2500 in repairs..

here is a tip on buying maximas :
75k Miles should be your maximum to look at.
Check the body for any big hits frame damage ect..
Check VIN number
Check if there is a relay anywhere or if anything is rewired.
Decide on 5 speed or auto ( I say 5 speed as i just did a conversion)
make sure it was driven by a person who took care of it.. more then 3 owners is always a problem..
good luck!

If you buy this 95 GLE right now with 132k expect to rebiuld tranny, change alot of sensors, and much more..

My brother owns a 1995 Maxima with approx 150K miles. In the last 5 months, this is what he has spent.

1. his air conditioning broke. That and axle shafts cost $1500
2. Check engine light. fails for Knock sensor and coolant temp sensor $500
3. Struts and brakes $400

The transmission and engine run strong but the above parts are common to wear out. (Unsure how common the Air conditioning problem is)

I would see if your friend has had the struts replaced. Check the axle shafts for a grinding noise while turning.

I live out of town otherwise I would have helped my brother who isn't mechanically inclined out and saved him some $. If you can do your own repairs, the costs will be much lower.

BTW, his odometer doesn't work either. Nissan says it is a bad Speedometer head. the part is $249 and the labor is $250. He will just live with this problem. It is a great car but expect a 9 year old car to start having problems.

Price seems high to me.

does the engine ok? and what's the period to changing oil?
my friend is like changing oil probably every 10k mile,

Sounds to me like you have already made up your mind to buy the car. The engine is running strong and the transmission is tight. Those aspects of my brothers car are fine.

10,000 miles? Is he using synthetic? I change my 5th gen Maxima every 3k - 3500. My brother changes his every 5-6K. How old is your friend? If he is young, I would be worried about how he drove the car. I'm sure he didn't baby it so you could have engine and tranny problems. My advice, don't buy from a young person.

pwaho, thanks for your advice, you're right, I'm actually made up my mind to buy this car, I've done so many researchs, and this is the best forum I could get...
I just asked him, he actually changes his oil every 5-7k, so it's ok, and he's around 31, 32, the way he drive is pretty calm, but he's doesn't baby his car a lot, though.
I ask him to let me take the car and go check every single part on Saturday, if they say it's ok to buy, then I'll take it, if not, then I'm going to look for some others, I'll post it out if I buy that car...
thanks a lot

Hi, I just bought this car last week, I did a test drive, it turned out pretty good, the engine is really smooth, no noise inside, but it's kind of loud when you stand out the car, but I think it's normal...maybe?...
anyway, I got a 4500 deal with my friend, and I pay about 130 to change something in engine, and pay 70 to aligned the tire, it runs really smooth, I just want to say that I love this car, I think I can drive it to 200k with no problem with the engine, am I right?
can I drive to 200k?...-______-

thanks again guys..

I also have 95, odometer reading 92000. no mechanical prob. so far. and that's after a frontal 65 mph collision.
