Clock Digit Intensity Problem

I just acquired a 1997 Maxima. When I switch on the headlights, the digits on the clock become very dim, almost illegible, even at night. I know that the clock intensity is suppose to decrease to adjust for nighttime driving, but this is way too dim.

Does anyone know if there is an adjustment on the clock to increase the intensity?

Thanks in advance.

Turn your dimmer up to maximum velocity. If it's still to dim for ya, I think there's a write up, maybe in the FAQ's on how to disable it from dimming.

Yeah, turning up the dimmer was the first thing I tried. The dimmer seems to have no effect on the clock; that could be part of the problem.

I'm starting to lose the minutes on the clock.

Thank you for the advice. Although I would prefer not to perform radical surgery to the clock wiring, this may be my only option.

It's clipping one wire...hardly "radical surgery"....takes 2 seconds

Yeah, I agree it's a simple fix. Bad thing about being an Electrical Engineer is you always want everything to be perfect. :-)

Thanks again, I appreciate your help.

hey -- what's the deal with the warning:

Warning: This procedure is very dangerous, you can very easily screw up your wiring. The key to doing this is taking your time and looking everything over twice before doing it.

The procedure seems so simple to have such a grievous warning!
Is this mod really that dangerous to the wiring of the car???

Nah, they are just covering their a$$. It is literally finding one wire that goes into the clock and cutting it. End of story...

Not bad.

But you know how the dimmer switch has a "full intensity" setting that bypasses the dimming of the auto climate display and Bose HU lighting? I wonder how hard it would be to gear that in for the clock, so that it would go to full intensity as well. I find it dim enough at night as it is and would hate for it to be too bright at night.
