Cig. lighter, bummer ?

Folks,

After 6 years of using my Max I got a gizmo that is supposed to operate of the cig. lighter 12V just to realize that my cig. lighter doesnt work. Checked the fuse, it is ok. But no juice is flowing to the lighter itself. I really need to use my gizmo in a car so in view of that:

1/ cig lighter goes pretty much from the battery straight fused 12V right? If I connect to the battery directly it should work?

2/ polarity on the cig lighter? Center pin is + or -?

3/ can I borrow 12V directly from the fuse board (if I take a fuse for cig.lighter and stick 2 wires into its place for 12V output)

4/ any guidelines on how I would go about fixing the lighter

Thanx

1 - Sort of, it's only on when the key is on.
2 - Center is +
3 - Yes
4 - If you've ever had your consol out, I bet the wire is just off.

Just check if the harness is pluged into the back of the lighter.

Anyone have directions on how to take off the console on a '96? Never worked with a '96 before.

Easiest thing ever: Lift up the plastic cover over the shifter from the side nearest to your cupholder. It will pop right out.

go to www.installdr.com and look up the radio installation guide for the 4th gen max. It's just pry up the piece surrounding the gear box.

in my limited experience, you CAN interchange the cig lighters. i took one from my 87 volvo and it worked fine. you've got to hold it in but who gives a f***.

oh yeah, don't freak out when your aftermarket stereo shorts out, its just the fuse from the cig lighter.
