Please help me. 1493???

My car is having some serious issues.
My buddys OBDII scanner read a 1493 "Manufacturer Trouble Code!!".
Does anyone know what this means.
It sure doesn't sound good (Especially the 2 exclamation points).
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I looked in my Chilton repair manual and I didn't find the specific code you are inquiring about. However, codes in the 1400 range all pointed to EGR. Hope that helps.

So...

Should I just get a new EGR?
How much do they cost?

I'd take it to a shop that you can trust and see if they can pinpoint what in the EGR system is setting off the code. Perhaps the vacumm lines are clogged up or it could be the EGR valve itself, control solenoid valve, or temperature sensor. Any of those can be setting off that code. Also, do a search for EGR, I know there are at least a half a dozen threads pertaining to EGR and troubleshooting procedures.
