those with Aftermarket Exhaust...how do you stop B pipe from rattling?
those with Aftermarket Exhaust...how do you stop B pipe from rattling?
I am sure many of you have run into this problem. Most of the reason why a catback exhaust helps us is because it eliminates the crimp in the B pipe piping that looks to have been made to prevent this rattling that I am having a problem with.
My OBX catback does not fit perfectly as it is hard for an aftermarket exhuast to do. After the cat, the B pipe is straight for a while and then it turns towards the passanger side of the car. Right near this turn is an exhaust hanger and a small, thin piece of metal that goes underneath the B pipe and crosses it. The problem I have is my rubber hanger has been stretched so much since I put on the exhaust 2 months ago that it is pulled off where it connects to the car every so often. Right now I go about 3 days before it falls off again. It is getting worse and worse.
How have you guys stopped the exhaust from rattling against the small piece of metal that crosses the piping??? I was thinking of buying a new rubber hanger and a longer bolt so that the hanger would not have as much stress on it all the time. Also is there anyway I can attach some rubber to the metal piece to prevent rattling?

I had the same problem. Goto an auto parts store and pick up a new hanger. They make some of pretty simular size to the Maxima's, but a lot stronger and with a smaller mounting hole. It takes FOREVER to get on and you're arms will be dead, but that thing is never coming off those hangers... It also hangs the exhaust a little higher then usual.
I noticed no additional vibration...

yeah, all i would know to do is to put the car up on a rack.
move things around and find out whats hitting
take off anything thats in the way and causing noise, rattling , etc.
add length by cutting and welding a piece in or might need to lose some and have it welded back.
