I saw on this board last week that the re730 were suggested as providing good performance at a reasonable price. i called for them at my local dealer and was told that all they could find when they checked for potenza was the re930. they came in at $93/tire. anyone have any experience with the 930s? if so, how did the treadwear hold up?

 

They 930's supposedly are no longer in production. But, a few places still do carry them. I have had them 205/60 15" on my old Acura Legend and they were pretty good in the rain and snow. The treadwear on them say 300 so they should last at least 25K with some normal driving. I had them for about 10K before giving my car away. But in short, the tires, after 10K didn't look worn at all.

The fact that Tirerack and Costco are still selling this tire, without any special sale price, also indicates a current production item.

 

Actually, the RE930 is discontinued. The current version of that tire is the RE930i with "Uni-T". I had the RE930's on my old 15" stock rims and they were great. As far as all season performance tires go for 15" rims, they are a 10 out of 10 in my book. Great dry traction, and wet traction was better than the dry traction of the stocker Toyos. Good treadwear too. I drove 20k on them and still had over half the tread left, even though I drive very aggressively.

 

3xmax, if an all-season tire is required, then the 930s are a good choice. However, if it doesn't snow where you live, you should consider finding another dealer or order a set of 730s off the internet: http://www.tirerack.com.
The 730s are incredible at cornering, wet/dry traction, turn-in, price, treadwear... the list goes on. These are tires worth hunting down, don't just take what one dealer says; look around.
