I'm not sure if my post worked so I will do it again. It is blank when I bring it up.

I have a '96 Infiniti I30 and am getting the 3-4 code. The check engine light came on due to the 5-3 code (Front right heated O2 sensor). I don't understand why the CEL doesn't come on with the 3-4 code. There is no telling how long I have been driving the car with a bad sensor.

Anyway, I found a number of places I can buy the sensor on-line for about $115, which sure beats the $165 to $180 the dealer wants.

So, how do you get at it? I have done some searches and haven't found anything to answer my question. It is way under the intake manifold. I saw one guy said he got it out in about 10 minutes. What size is the bolt which holds it in? What type of wrench did you use to reach it? Long boxed-end? Socket with U-joint? Did you remove any of the air box to get a straighter shot at it? How do you get it back in? It must be tricky to get the bolt back in without dropping it in a place you can't reach.

I have viewed the Canadian site which has pictures of the sensor, but it didn't give a good description on how to get it out.

Thanks for any help you can provide. I will be ordering one this week and may be doing the job next weekend.

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php is that the site you meant? cause i thought the write up was pretty good basically if you get a flashlight you can see the sensor right under the intake manifold (if your looking in from the drivers side, its got one bolt going through it (up and down) and a connector, its not too hard to get at if you have small hands but your gonna cut yourself up most likey cause theres very sharp parts all around it (nissan did it to **** you off). You just loosen the bold and it'll come right out.

When you have 2 codes its best to fix the cheaper one first cause usually that'll cause the other code but not always, when the knock sensor is bad you know though, when mine was bad i couldn't even barely chirp my tires from a stand still, with a good once i can roast them.

I did get the oxygen sensor at oxygensensors.com. I put it in, drove it around and re-checked the codes. I still have the 0304 so the knock sensor must be bad. Tha car does have 154k miles on it.

Now that is what I was looking for. You da man. It tells me EXACTLY what tools to use and how to do it. Now I can go to Sears and buy them. I hope to avoid the 'Bloody Stump' method.
Thanks for the link.

I just finished the job. The only thing I did differently than the skippynet.com site suggested was I used half inch extensions instead of the quarter inch. I bought the 14" quarter inch drive extension and tried it, but it felt like it was going to snap. I have a 3/8 inch to quarter inch converter so I put it on the socket and used a 10 and 6 inch 3/8 inch drive extensions and they worked perfectly. Now I will go drive it and see if it solved the problem. I cleared the code and only get the 5-5 now.
