How much ATF??

I have 99 GXE auto. I was wondering how many quarts of ATF it would take (not a complete flush because I'm kinda broke). Also are there any recommended brands? Does it help to use synthetic fluids? Thanks.

Drain and refill = about 4 maybe 4.5 qts.
Any ATF should be fine.

Synthetic will keep tranny temps lower, you should do a complete flush when switching your tranny to synthetic fluid. That might take you about 12 qts to do. Amsoil would be your best choice for synthetic tranny fluid.

I did my drain and refill twice in the past 2 months (converting to syn), and Tom is spot on.

If you are dropping the pan, clean up the magnets, etc: 5 qt.
If you are not dropping the pan: 4.5 quart.

The old ATF is dyno, the new ones are syn. So, yes, currently, 60% of the ATF is syn, while the remaining is dyno.
