I have a 98 SE that didn't come with the Bose system in it and I was looking at putting the Bose system in the car.

However, I see a fair amount of you guys taking it out of your car. Why is that? Is there something wrong with the Bose? I thought they had a reputation for a great sound? Do you recommend something else?

What's the scoop?

Bose Sucks

cuz they sound great when you first get it but after a whioe the speakers start to pop the head unit gets crap (dimming screen, cd player stops working) the usual, but when i got the car i thought these speakers and head unit would last but i guess i was wrong.

THe Bose system is excellent; however, I wouldn't pay big bucks for it if it didn't come with the car. I don't even think u can get Bose put in aftermarket.

The sound is good but if you want to use non bose speakers you have to use an adapter for the bose head unit. Its just not worth it, you're better off going aftermarket.

The BOSE is a sweet sounding system.

But you can have relatively the same sound if not more for the dollar. Unless someone gives you the head unit and powered speakers don't do it. Go aftermarket and your pocket book and ears will thank you.

So what head unit....

do you guys like? I'd like to put something in that's the same size. Such as a CD/cassette receiver.

What do you have?

Re: The BOSE is a sweet sounding system.

You can't have relatively the same sound. You can go aftermarket, and the sound will be cleaner, louder, and stronger, but not necessarily better because the components you put in are not specifically designed for the car. Those Polk 6.5s you may add were made to work in Nissan, Ford, GM etc. The Bose system in the Max was designed for the Max/I30, period. Take that bose system and put it in a Ford Escort and it won't sound right at all.

I agree that you should just go aftermarket. The people who said the bose sucks is crazy. I have a 1993 and a 1998 Max and the Bose sounds great. No problems yet,
