For those with a 97+ F/E Conversion...

I was just in a minor accident the other day, and the body shop is probably going to have to replace the front bumper on my 95.

My question is, I know the 97+ front bumper is a direct fit on the 95 platform, but would it be required to upgrade the headlights, fog lights, and 97+ grille too? I really dont want to do all of that. I can live without the foglights, but what about the other stuff?

Thanks

Chris

The grill needs to be replaced.

If money is an issue, you can go without the fogs, the older headlights fit the new bumper.

There are two mounting points that the shop will need to modify to get the newer bumper to fit. The shop shouldn't have any problems.

I too was just involved in a fender bender. The way I'm getting my 97 front end is by just taking the car somewhere else who you know does good work but cheaper than what the insurance company estimated. My insurance company estimated damages on the driverside front but with there estimate I took it to my friends body shop and he said he'll give me a whole 97 front for like $400 cheaper which includes headlights and fogs. Try it and see what they say. But all and all all you will need to do is put out about $40 for a new grill and you can get the 97 front end. If you can't afford for them to paint it buy a GXE grill which is chrome and use that. Hope this helps.

Well techniclly the grill will fit, you will just have a gap. It would look something like this:

I did the conversion and the bumper does fit perfectly except for a few modifications. You do need a new grille otherise there will be a gap between the grille an the bumper. I got the chrome gxe grille.

Awesome guys, thanks for the replies. I dont want the GXE chrome grille, because I got the gay gold package on my car, and if I had the chrome, it would look really weird with a gold emblem. It might be worth a try though. But yes, I do have a shop that can do the work for like half the price of what the insurance company will estimate.

Thanks guys

Chris

Definitely true. Just don't take it to anyone who is going to do it cheaper to get some money in your pocket. Take it to someone with a good track record and reliability.

Hey man , not to be ignorant but you really need to have that shop repaint those white parts. im not sure if its the camera angle or the flash but even YOU could probably see the different shades of white. That other white paint isnt even pearl is it? anyway , nice car with good mods, i just think that shop should repaint that.

Actually, I don't think this is his car. The guy that actually owned it had these pictures on his homepage before he painted it. Those parts came that way from Sarona. And once he painted it I think he painted it black. But even now the car is sold and I have no clue who has it now.

for a rear end conversion, can you change jus the trunk and taillights, but keep the shorter 95-96 bumper?

I have heard so many different versions of what needs to be replaced to make the 97 bumper fit the 95. So, once and for all, I need to know for sure what I need to make the 97 bumper fit on my 95. It's already obvious, thanks to Maxima10to1's picture, that the grille needs to go.

So far this is what I'm going to do in the near future since my bumper needs replacing anyways (and this is the opportunity for me to go with the 97 front end look):

1) swap to 97 bumper
2) get round PIAA fogs
3) get Trenz Grill for the 97
4) sticking with stock 95 headlights and corner lamps

Will this work guys?

The 97-99 rear bumper is different from the 95-96. It sticks out further by about 2". So having 97-99 tails, and trunk (yeah the runk is different too) it may look odd.

Oh that is not my car it's 1SLOMAX like I said...well wrote.

Oh you can also have a 95-96 front bumper with a 97-99 grill.

But you have to do some trimming on the 97-99 grill right?

yes, i realize the 97-99 bumper is longer, and it must fit w/ the quarter panels as well, since those do not have to be replaced when doing the rear end conversion. but what about a 97-99 trunk w/ a 95-96 bumper? i don't think there could be issues elsewhere, just wondering if these would align correctly.
