Daniel B. Martin Writes:

Please get a second opinion before proceeding. Many oil leaks come from easily-fixed problems such as a leaky oil filter or oil pressure sending unit.
................................

This is what I suspected. There was no leakage before a recent oil change at a local Jiffy Lube. Then I began to notice small (1-2in.) spots on the garage floor. Took it back, but they could find nothing.

................................
Daniel B. Martin Writes:

Small oil leaks tend to spread out and look big. How much oil are you losing? How many miles can you go before you have to add one quart? If the number is larger than 1,000 then I would "just live with it".
................................

I will keep track. As usual, thanks for the advice!

Well, many Japanese V6 engines have leaking main seals on the timing chain/belt cover. I know for a fact that this is a common problem on high mileage V6 Camrys. $1400 seems very steep though. Are they replacing the timing chain too? Because that doesn't necessarily have to be replaced.

First of all Jiffy Lube don't know crap about cars and they care even less about your oil leak. The only real way of tracing the oil leak is to get down there and check it yourself. There's no way anyone can diagnois an oil leak over the internet for you. But here is a suggestion. If your engine is all grimy and dirty from the oil leak, take it down to the car wash and CAREFULLY clean out the engine bay. Try to clean the underside of the engine and tranny as much as possible. Then drive home and run the car up on some ramps and then carefully clean the rest of the bottom of the engine. Drive the car for a few days and then again put the car up on some ramps/jackstands. Look around for fresh oil leaks. You should be able to find out where it's coming from. After you do that, tell us where is coming from. We can only guess from the info you gave up to now.
