ECU Broken?
ECU Broken?
So...The dreaded check engine light comes on the other day, so i pop over to the site and check out how the read the fault codes. I break the sticker and put the screwdriver in.
It was in the shadow a bit so i couldnt really see, but it looked like it was in about an 1/8 or more. Since i cant see, i put a little pressure on it and turned to find the slot for the screwdriver. Suddenly, snap! and the screwdriver pushes in all the way.
(I can honestly say, i was hardly pushing on it at all)
So now i dont know what to do. I am tempted to pull the whole ECU module, pop the cover off and see if i can repair the little screw somehow, but i am terrified to do so. I am afraid that disconnecting the module will lock the car in some anti theft mode or something like that.
I have no money, so any advice is very helpful, thanks in advance!
(btw, the car is running fine...go figure)

Re: ECU Broken?
It will work fine without the screw. The "screw" is actually just a toggle switch. If you search, you will find a write up on how to replace it with a larger toggle.
As far as removing the ECU, I had a dealer tell me that if you unplug it for more than 24 hours, the immobilizer will kick in. I found this to be not true. I had mine out for several days, yet she fired right up when it was put back together.
Good luck
