'98 SE hand-down now w/ over 100K, what do I need @ this point? .. & then some
OK after visiting my brother in Chicago last weekend, he decided he wants to give me his '98 SE once again (obviously his '01.5 Passat 1.8T was a lemon so he's into some legal wars w/ the dealer), so now it has over 100K on the odo., and after testing it last month when he was here in MI for a short visit, I already know he needs brakes, tires, tune-up, etc, which is the 1st thing to take care of when I drive it back to MI once he gives it to me (besides giving it the fuel it deserves - 93 octane), but what else should I change (sensors, shocks, etc) at this point?
I also have plans of modding, but would like to give it a "sleeper" look (red/clears, clear corners, sticking w/ stock 16"s) and mod it one notch above "SE" levels w/o making it ride too sporty, also besides changing the brakes, I'd like to enhance stopping power considering there's a lot of stop & go in my commutes to/from work, would a brake system upgrade (rotors, pads, stainless steel brake lines) do the trick? Also thinking of doing some power upgrades but I don't want it to sound too loud (again trick here is taking it one notch above stock "SE", I don't race much but would like to have some xtra power on hand when I need to), what would you guys suggest for brake, engine, exhaust, and suspension upgrades in my case?
