Knock sensor bypass q

alrighty folks, if we wire up the by pass for the ks with the resistors from radio shack, and the same output resistance is read by the ecu, then WHY would this cause a problem at wot or any other time during acceleration if the ks itself shows this reading as well? does the ks reading change? thats whats got me stumped..... what am i missing here is there some flaw in my logic?

Re: Knock sensor bypass q

The knock sensor outputs a signal that is read by the ECU. The ECU retards the timing if the signal from the KS indicates pre-igniton or knocking.

When you bypass the KS with a resistor all you are doing is faking out the ECU that your KS is still connected. The timing isn't ever retarded by the KS signal bc there isn't one going to the ECU.

The question is: What problem are you having that drove you to bypass the KS in the first place?

ks was shot, and i got the code, did the resistor mod and then boom all my power was back, so now i kinda understand it better and will attempt to replace the sucker as soon as i get another one thanx!

I forgot to mention that during wide open throttle is when you REALLY want your KS in place.

My knock sensor was malfunctioning, but when I pulled it out and tested it, it would give the correct resistance. I did the knock sensor bypass and the car's low end power returned, so I replaced the knock sensor. The moral of the story is, the used knock sensor for sale on ebay may test out correctly, but it may still be defective.

On a side note, I recently bid on a knock sensor and after I bid it occurred to me to find out if it was new or used. It was used. Doh! Unfortunately I won the KS for $25, shipped. Now I'm wondering if it's worth it having a negative feedback in ebay, cuz I sure don't want to spend $25 on a worthless piece of junk.
