How much is this maxima worth ?

Hello there guys. I am shopping for a used maxima and i found a really nice one but i think some opinions on how much this car is worth.
its a 98 SE which is silver with black leather. it has 24,000 miles. SUPER CLEAN in and out except 2 dents ( 1 on hood and 1 on side). the car rides awesome and its in excellent condition. everything is stock and it has the SE chrome wheels. fully loaded for a 98 and clean title. how much you think its worth ? thanks.

my 99 maxima with 44,000 miles is worth exactly $14,800 according to nadaguides.com go there intead of kbb.com. most banks only use the NADA guide.

nada rates your car as follows:

with automatic transmission - $14,600
w/o auto tranny - $14,225

these are the retail values

i think its a deal

is anyone else interested in buyin the car from the guy...if not talk him down to $12,000...i think he would take 12 over 0. go to kbb.com print out how much the car is worth, show it to the guy and let him know your not payin any more than what its worth. i got a good deal on my max. its a 96 se and i got it 2 years ago for 8,000 cash...it was worth almost 12,000 at the time but i got a good deal on it cuz the guy was in the military and had to move to Japan

he is the 1st owner and it does have 23,950 miles on it. the car is BRAND NEW. this guy loves the car too and he is i NO rush for selling. he just bought a 530 and says that imma put it in garage untill i sell it for 14. his price in magazine was 15,500 but he lowered it now to 14. i showed him the kbb paper which said that the car is worth 12k. he laughed and said that his blue book value (which he didnt have with him) says that his car is worth 15. he is very serious about price and when i offered him 13. he said "13 is an INSULT to me". the guy says he has custom brakes on the car and custom tint balh blah blah. i dont think he will give it for 12 anytime soon. he says " i wait till the right person comes and buys, a person who really apreciates this car". he doesnt understand that its a 98. i need to buy a car this month and i told him that i buy if he gives for 13. right now 13,500 is his last price. i will call him tomorrow and try 13 one more time. i personally think that its NOT worth anymore than 12 just because its 98.

just wait ....

till he gets over the shock of selling his car , give him few days , and politely tell him how much is the car actually worth .

the miles are low , but 13-14k for car that is 6 years old - that's bit too much.

for that price range you could buy 96-97 BMW 740iL with around 60-80k
which is much better car !!!

very true man. I dont really like the exterior color that much but since it has black leather and very low miles, somehow it has caught my eye. i have been looking for a black on gray/black for long time and hard to find. Im only buying a maxima and i think i should buy 1. lets wait a few days and see what he says. obviously he has gone for 15500 to 13500. pretty soon he will be askin 12?

Personally I wouldnt pay any more than 11 for it, so i'd say if you really want it dont pay a dime over 12. Honestly you cant buy a car from a private party and be expecetd to pay retail. If he wants to leave it in the garage while it continues to depreciate in value then he's more than welcome to, take your hard earned money elsewhere.

Very true. It is worth 12 grand. I told him this:
"The blue book value is 12 thousand brother, im offering you 13 grand which is 1 thousand extra just for the extra cleanness of the car as well as your extra care for it. i understand that it has black leather seats, brand new good year tires, titanium tint, and best brakes out there. so thats why i am offering you 1 grand more. lets call it a deal? "
then he turned around and said, "13 is an insult to me". I was so mad but i stayed quite and told him to give me few days. I think i have been very nice. I will call him in 3 days. Thanks for all help everyone.

family plan was to not go over 8 grand. only reason why we r so high is cuz of LOW LOW MILES. Low miles= no headache= lifetime car.

thats not true u can get a low mileage car and have more problems than you would with one with 100,000, all depends on how he drove it and what not, but it SEEMS like ur getting a nice car at a somewhat high price

i'd go for it, i was in a similar situation after looking at many maximas. last year, i bought a 98 black-on-black gle w/ 17k for 16,500...i know i payed too much but 17k is basically a new car and i was tired of lookin after a year lol. bottom line, if it is legit then 13.5 is a good deal. kbb is inaccurate with super low mileage cars(they only add like 1 grand to a cars value when the mileage is that low when in actuality, i've seen extremely low mileage cars like that sell for several thousand above kbb. 24k on a 98 is extremely rare so u will be considered very lucky if u get a best of both worlds fully loaded max with low miles like that again.

i just found out that his car has been on sale for 2 months or so. i was talking to one of my friends who recently bought an accord, he was looking for a maxima/camry/accord and he finally got a good deal on an accord. he said that he saw the car in magazine 2 months ago when he was asking 15,500 for it.right now in magazine it reads: was 15,500 now 14,000 obo. i think 13 grand is a good deal because this car is extremely clean and it has black leather. but for some reason i just dont like to spend the 13 grand on this car because it silver ( i want black) and it has chrome SE rims. the rims can be changed ez but the color is not what i originally wanted. silver is still cool but the black leather and low miles have definetly caught my eye

move on if it's too expensive.

In reality, no 4th gen is worth more than 12.5k now. Especially from a private party. I don't care what options or milage it has, I feel that i can find any 4th gen in any color/option combo for that amount. 2k1s and 2ks are selling for 12-15k with options.

I wouldn't pay more than 11k for that car, difference between 50k and 25k is not really big to me, as the maxima will last for a long time.. the 25k milage difference won't justify the 2 grand price difference..

Private party always better...easier to negotiate down and that one has lower miles. The only difference between the SE and SE-L is a few cosmetic things.

I agree with the finding a 5spd. They are the greatest. Plus...you don't have to worry about messing up your tranny with any mods.

Why can't you drive a manual for hours a day? I do it all the time. I only makes it more fun to be in traffic. Your car will probably last longer(as long as you take care of your clutch) if you get a 5spd. They are a blast!

u r right, 13 k does sound good. but i went on autotrader.com plenty of times and they had a lot of bogus deals from dealerships. most of the time those cars didn't even exist or have already been sold...those are referred to as "bait cars," that is when u call the dealership to inquire about those cars, they say that the car(s) were sold but they have many other maximas at similar deals. then they will prolly wind up charginging u that 13.5 k for a higher mileage car with less options....last year, a couple dealers in my area that list insanely low prices did that to me. i saw deals better than the one u saw on autotrader.com for 4th gens. since i was and still am relatively new at this, i fell for that bait car thing. one dealer was selling a '96 black gxe auto w/ 5xxxx miles for $16,500 and the second was selling a '99 black-on-black se auto w/ 66k for $17,900 and a '99 black-on-tan gle auto with 43k(51k actual) for $18,900. i was able to get both cars down to $15,500 and $16,500 respectively but they wanted me to finance only from their lender(another common dealer scam) and their interest rates were ver high so i just walked.

if u do wanna search online, then try cars.com and bargainnews.com(if u live in the ny,nj,ct area). both sites have some sweet private party deals and cars.com has a better search engine than autotrader.com as well; and if u do live around ny, their newspaper, NEWSDAY has some sweet private party deals as well in their classifieds(just ignore the local dealership ads. )
hope that helps

Thanks alot of all the info and advice SSjTrunks112
I am buying the car today for 13. Everything works excellent except the hood lifts dont work and the radio volume **** needs to be replaced because it is going bad soon.
I think 13 is good deal for a 98 SE mist grey on black leather with 23,950 miles. good brakes, titanium tint, new battery, $480 spend on eagle 1 tires 2 months ago (saw recipt. the guy showed me all the recipts to all of the maintaince done on the car which were all done by local nissan dealer (as well as the 20k check up and stuff like that). I did a car fax history report and the car has no bad history what so ever. this car has been well maitained from what i see. and i am getting some few extra stuff with it, such as owners manual, all the books magazine and stuff that he got when he bought the car. im getting it the way he bought it, heck im even getting the sticker that has the price on it when he bought it back in 98 for abit over 29 grand. so its a complete package and in matter of a few hours i will be a proud VQ owner . hehehehehhe still hasnt sunk to me but pretty soon it will

no prob Doggy, i was in the EXACT same situation last year... i went thru many potential deals until i finally landed a clean low mileage max(like i said it took me almost a yr)... and yeah being a proud new VQ owner took awhile to sink in as well...good luck and let us know when u purchase it!
