Speedo error is pretty large at those speeds. To get a more accurate speed measurement (for autos) divide your RPM by 35.

My car at top speed: 4800rpm / 35 = 137mph

No but I did notice that the hood is not sitting flushed with the fender, may need to realign the hood.

how do you calculate speed according to the rpm and gear ratios?
i never understood how gear ratio's could be used

i know what happens when they go up or down (longer or shorter) but not how to use them in calculations...anyone wanna fill me in?

"Hey if you're gonna say I didn't put the right kind in, you're wrong. I used 10w30. And besides, motor oil would have nothing to do with this accident."

"TRUE, but you can't latch the hood too well if you don't TAKE THE CAN OUT, YOU NO SELLING WASTE OF SPACE. I SWEAR TO GOD YOU'RE WORTHLESS!"

Ok, I can keep going but I think yall get the idea. That statement was funny. It reminded me of one of the greatest Farley movies ever.

Sorry, to go OT. Now we are back on track about going fast. I've only topped out 3rd gear. My speedo said 128. But, the rpm is a good idea. I know almost every speedo and tach is WAY off. The only way to be accurate is all aftermarket.

Example, I got my car dyno'd. I ran it all the way through 3rd gear until I heard it hit the rev limiter. My rev limiter is at 6700 rpm. Now, on my dyno sheet, it showed it at 6500. They tap into the coil pack signal to get a tach reading.

I bought the car like that from the previous owner, I wouldn't be surprised if something similar to that happened. Oh well, I'm not sweating it too much. I can't expect too much from a used car, as long as everything works ok. Not gonna nit-pick on every little thing but the hood popping open at high speeds is annoying but it forces me to stay within the speed limits. Its cool with me. Not trying to be a speed racer here.

how accurate is the speedo on a laptop's GPS program? Do you think that would be more or less accurate than the speedo in the dash?

Every SC/turbo car on this board is capable of 150+, many of the N20 cars too. I haven't topped out my car since MEVI and JWT ECU. Fastest I've gone with GPS in the car with me was 146 that was before ECU, catback and midpipe.

quite amazing...When I do 75 mi the rpm is in 3100-3200... going 140 mi/hr is only at 5000 rpm. I would think that with our gears,at 140 the needle would be way past redline, but I guess I was quite wrong...I also wonder how many lawyers you need to pull you out from jail,if you get clocked with 140 mi. Maybe Johnie Cochran... that is just my $0.02

watch your hood bro. If it flies open and slams your winshield. theres a good chance u will bend your frame/railings.. Your car will then always have problems and most likely be totalled.

147 here. We have a big hill on one of the highways. My ac stopped kicking out cold air and started to kick out heat so I thought it best to slow down. 97 SE 5spd.
