final idiot question re: 95 SE

on a 95 SE, there was "apparently" an option for both 2-wheel AND 4-wheel ABS.

can some one provide more info (ie - which wheels get the ABS). and without meaning to sound COMPLETELY stupid (which is NOT hard for me!), i'm assuming that 4 is better than 2 and 2 is better than none, right?

our last 5 cars have all had ABS, and it's ALWAYS been 4 wheel. i've NEVER heard of 2 wheel. thus, the moronic questions.

thanks in advance, and thanks overall - this forum has been VERY helpful in guiding me as i purchase my first maxima. i will post pics upon delivery!

Where did you hear that option? The service manual for 4th generations (95 - 99) only shows 4 wheel ABS systems as an option.

As far as the 2 wheel four wheel goes i dunno, i thought they were all 4 wheel but since 70% of braking is done by the front wheels i don't think it matters all that much. What i can tell you from experience is that ABS is the greatest safety invention on cars since the seat belt (i think its better than an airbag). I watched a news story on tv that showed the difference between a full wet road brake with and without ABS and i'll never buy a car without ABS again. The Car without ABS spun VIOLENTLY out of control while the car with ABS went exactly where the driver wanted it to go, and i can tell you i was amazed.

At least one other study has shown that the safety advantage of ABS is offset by drivers who drive faster thinking that ABS will save their butt in an emergency. Apparently there is a danger level we are comfortable with, and if ABS reduces the danger we compensate by driving faster.

LoL...Well i drove fast without ABS and i don't drive any differently knowing i have it, i think that sounds kinda silly. Oh well point being though, ABS will save your life if you ever need if, i'd say its saved mine (and my cars) at least twice already once very recently actually. ABS also allows you to make lane changes while braking hard, this is nearly impossible with non-ABS braking systems. And alittle FYI for anyone that doesn't know if you have abs your supposed to slam on your brakes at a panic stop don't pump them, just press them HARD and Firm and Steer away from danger.

Drive fast, but drive safely
