Anyone cut their springs?
i have a 95 max se, with 120,000 miles on it with the stock suspension. i was thinkin bout cuttin the springs 2 inches, cuz i can get it done for $50. anyone ever cut their springs? if so, how bad was the ride quality? heres a link that proves most people wrong about cutting springs http://www.teammatrix.com.my/CarMods/potongspring.html
any help would be appreciated.

I have always thought the same thing but people on here say otherwise. Why can you cut your springs 1.4 inches like H&R drop size and thenreplace your stockshocks with something like illumina's? Would this give a good ride, or do the stock shocks work only because they are designed to work with the max's stock springs and there 4 inch wheel gap.

1st off, if you actually do the math you find out that if you cut 2 coils off you spring and lets say you start with 12 coils, your spring rate only increases by 12/10 - 1 = 20% which is NOT enough to handle a 2in drop. To decrease your suspension travel by half you need to DOUBLE your spring rate. And with a 2 inch drop you will effectively go from about 3 inches of travel to 1 inch of travel, which you need to TRIPLE your spring rate to not bounce off your bumpstops all day long.
Your springs will also fall off the shock mounts because they are too short and all handling will go to crap. Your shocks will also blow from bottoming out too much. But then again, you don't have to believe us, go for it and try it out.
If you want to do it right, you'd buy "real springs" and "real shocks" like Konis, or AGX or Illuminas for that much of a drop.
