frankencar intake

I am considering on purchasing the frankencar intake for my 95 SE 5spd. I live in CA, and so I am wondering if this intake is CARB approved. I been trying to email frankencar but have gotten no replies. Also any comments on the performance on this intake would be greatly appreciated.

hey there!

OK, some thoughts:

1) the car will sound better, and should perform better. I have a
Frankencar, but, added it after I installed a Y-pipe...sound is
AMAZING!!!

2) While I'm not an expert on CALI emissions, the intake will not
affect your exhaust gases and therefore, should be fine. All
you're doing is allowing the car to inhale better, but, not
exhale better (which would affect your emissions).

I am not worried about it passing smog. I am just worry that I will get hassle by the cops around this area, who routinely make people pop their hoods during traffic stops and issue fix it tickets

that shouldn't be an issue...in fact, I'm not even sure what
specific law you're worried about breaking -- a "fix it" ticket
would be if something was malfunctioning or was broken and has
a potential cause for harm (or smog)...

Fix it ticket can be for illegal parts on a car, not just broken ones.

You can get one for superwhites or a broken headlight. If your maxima doesn't look very rice, cops won't pull you over and ask you to open your hood. If a cops sees an intake under your hood, you would probably get a fix it ticket.

As for CARB or emissions, I would be worried about the visual part of a smog check. If you have an intake, you will not pass the visual inspection but will pass the emissions part though. I suggest taking the intake off before getting a smog check or going to someone you know who will not do a visual check and just smog it.

What part of CA do you live in?

Cops cant check under your hood unless you give consent, your car is just like your house, they cant search it without probable cause or consent. Now whether or not your gonna tell the cop no is up to you, i have but my car looks stock and nothing on it looks 'rice', and i got off with a warning.
Anyway, i had a smog check with my intake and frankencar midpipe and they didnt say anything and of course i passed. shouldnt be a problem unless the people at the smog place are idiots. Or just put the stock intake back on before you go get it smogged, it only takes about 15 min. anyway and you only have to do it every few years.
