Difference between intakes?

CAIs run anywhere from $40 to $250 on ebay. What would be the difference between a cheap and an expensive intake?

material, build quality, brand name, etc.... Performance wise, they should produce about the same type of gains.

I think design wise, they're all the same, since there's only so many places you could run the pipe to.

I installed a PR CAI 3 years ago, and that cost me close to $250 for the kit.

I'd say the filter plays a huge part in the price. A good filter is expensive (like Apexi or K&N). Also how complete the kit is would affect price (like if the kit includes all mounting brakets, clamps, adapters, etc.). All the pipes should be equal as already stated, but I know from experience that some intakes are just too cheap (Arospeed).

well i dunno about the cai's much. I have a jwt popcharger. It's better for a nicer high end, while the cai you are talking about will give some low end supplements. frankencar is supposed to be a little of both. i guess i got a little off the subject though. i would guess that the fit and finish quality of the $250 cai would be alot better than the $40 one. I would prolly try to get the good one if I could.

Midpipe designed intakes fall hard in the lower and midrange RPM, they only offer gains above 4800rpm.
