Idea about using multiple ECU's to run Nitro and a JWT or G-Force

I posted this in the Nitrous area too, but thought it might be nice to hear some more info from other group member such as SC and turbo maximas

Here is the idea.

What about having 2 ecu's. I stock and one g-force or JBW. Create a switch so that when you arm the nitro you automatically switch to the stock ecu. When you switch off you go back to the g-force or JWT. That should not be hard at all. There is only one end that wires plug into for the ecu and you just need to split off that signal to accomplish it. Does anyone know of a down side for this. The reason I even think of such a crazy thought is becasue i would like to install nitro for that time once a week when I need to run a little hard on the highway. Not full time and not a huge shot. Everyone says if you have a chip no NO2. I really only wish to have 20 - 30hp more. Just enough for an edge. I initially though running very clean fuel would help keep from having issues. plus like i said above a very low spray. But if not how about having these 2 ecu's. the stock for when NO2 is on and the JWT or G-Force when it is no. I have a G-force or I would send it to JWT for a reprogram for NO2.

Like I said though I would not run it much and I am very happy with my g-force now. dont want to loose it!

Has anyone ever done anything like this?

Well besides the fact that you would have to splice about 150 wires. I'm not sure you could just switch ECUs ont he fly though. You'd need to at least shut the car off then hit the switch I'm willing to bet.

Well I was thining more along the lines of a 2 socket switch. if you had access to the 2 ecu (female sockets and a splitter I guess it could happen eh?) Just an idea. I hate to hear the answer no. can you do this No. There is always a way, it just depend on how bad you want it and how far you are willing to go.
If i had a better clutch i think i could pick up some speed. I have an oem and it just does not grab very well. And of course a MEVI. But with all my mods and an ACT clutch and maybe LW flywheel i think I might be ok without anything else.

If one of the ECUs is disconnected for more than 24 hours, then it has to learn about the motor all over again. So, like Nealoc said, a dual CPU car is not really a good idea. Since you're willing to spend money on an aftermarket ECU, the experimentation of dual mode, and NOS, why not do NOS and an SC without the extra ECU?

they already have this, it is the JWT nitrous program. It has the regular program installed on the ecu, then when you flip the switch to arm the nitrous, it runs a nitrous program.

It's not a bad idea but it wouldn't work without ALOT of funky wiring. You'd have to keep the unused ECU "on" but not being "used" at all times or else you would have to shut down the car to switch. Even then I'm not sure the way the ECU is engineered would allow it to be switched on the fly like that. It's kindof like trying to keep your PC on but not plugged into the wall... it has a set of commands it has to execute before it is ready to use, those commands must be executed prior to it being usable.

It would be easier to just get the JWT nitrous program like 96sleeper said.
