Someone told me there is some reset buttom on the 96 maxima that erases the computers memory so that the check engine light goes away. I have a 96 maxima SE 5 speed. I found some kind of button behind the clutch pedal, but i press it and it doesnt do anything. Please inform me on where this button is.

 

that's the clutch activation switch for cruise control, etc. you are looking for the ecu which is to the right of the gas pedal behind a black plastic cover. take it off and you should see some tape/sticker over a small screw. turn the screw all the way to the right til it stops, back to the left, back to the right, andfinally back to the left. Between each turn you have to wait 5 seconds. this will reset your ecu and reset your cel
