BKR5E-11 for NGK V-Power Copper plugs and they're about $2/each. Got mine at NAPA for $12 something with tax

If you have money, get the NGK plats ($37 for 6 on eBay, $15 each from dealer), but if you're low on cash (like me) use NGK copper plugs (only like $2 a piece).

I'm 17 and I did it myself (actually, I did it when I was 16) It's not hard at all! Go try it out and it'll make you want to fix up other things on your car

There is dirt on the side the spark opening. How do you prevent dirt from getting into the engine?

On my ' 98 Max ( auto tranny) I can`t decide on spending 18.00 $ on a single OEm NGK PFR5G-11 platinum spark plug, as opposed to the reguler copper NGK BKR5E-11 at 3.00 $ ( canadian prices). I prefer changing plugs every 2 years or 40000 km at 3$ a plug, as opposed to 18$ a plug every 5 years / 100000 km. Besides, I dont plan to keep the car another 5 years, perhaps 2-3 years.
On the other side, previous posts have praised the platinum plug, very mush so. What would you do?

That's what I'll do. Worse scenario it would have cost only 3$ x 6 = 18 $ plus tax to try them out.

I got the copper plugs for $12 total and those will last me 30k and the platinums are $37 shipped from eBay and those last 60k. For that price I can change the copper plugs 3 times for a total of $36 and get 90k out of the 3 sets Talk about saving money

I use NGK BKR6E-11's (one step colder, because I'm boosted) coppers and change my plugs every 3,000 miles along with my oil.

They're so cheap and it's so easy to do, i don't see why not!

Are y'all gapping the coppers at .044 (at least I think that is what the platinums are supposed to be gapped)? Or does a little more or a little less gap make any difference at all?

Thanks

gapped at what??? I have searched almost everywhere and cannot seem to find if the gap on the copper plugs should be the same as the platinum.

I will go with stock gap unless anyone has any suggestions.

Thanks

Question!

Does the quality of the spark plug have any correlation with the fuel econony? If i change my spark plugs to platinum, will the gas milage go up?

There some reqular and platinum plugs you can choose from. I had the regular spark plugs and my car is eating alot of gas. Any thoughts?

You can buy a spark plug gapper from any Auto Parts store. The cheap ones run like $.99 and are still somewhat accurate.

The really nice ones run quite a bit more, and are super accurate.

The $.99 ones have always worked for me anyway.

I gap mine to .036, because of the extra hp from the blower.

3000 milles interval for changing spark plugs is an overkill to me unless you race the car and earn a living from racing.

The cable plug that connects to the spark plug appears to easily put apart on my old Mazda. I’m curious, if it would be the same on Max cable.

If you have a 4th gen MAxima, then it has no distributor. Each spark plug has it's own coil. There are no high voltage cables that run from the ditributor to each spark plug, like older engines.
There still are wires that go on each coil on each spark plug. These coils have to be unscrewed to to be pulled off each spark plugs. Very easy to do. Also disconnect the wires that run on each coil before removing the screws.
