clock problem

The clock on my 97 Se 5 speed fades out sometimes.I can tap on the area above it and it comes back on but it is reset to 1:00. Any ideas? How do I get to the clock. Do I have to take the whole console out or just the trim around the shifter boot and work my way up?Is that how I do it?This would seem like a minor problem but it annoys the heck out of me.

Look at the 94-97 radio removal procedure http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Nissan/Maxima.html

This is a sign that your clock is about to die. Happened to me, and it eventually quit working. Luckily, I found one at a local junkyard for about $20.00. Nissan wants $200.00 for this part!

Thanks, so I don't need to take everything off?I just need to pry the panel below the clock off, correct?Sorry to ask dumb questions but my car is in extremely good condition and I don't want to break a piece of trim or something.

The top A/C vent is all one piece which holds the hazards, defrost, and clock. Just lift up on panel near clock and pull down and backwards (toward rear of car). It may be hard at first, but don't worry, those clips are just so tight! Once the panel is off, unplug all harnesses and remove the two screws holding the clock.
