help needed with Addco RSB

could i be an idiot? (rhetorical question )

my Addco RSB doesn't seem to fit properly. it seems that the big "U" bolts are threaded too short. i put the "U" bolt around the main beam/axle, then flat bracket plate next, followed by the "u" bracket with the bushing sandwiched in between, just like in the pictures. only when i put the washer and lock nut on there, i can screw both nuts (one on each part of the "U" bolt) all the way down until i run out of threads, and i still have about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of space between the flat bracket plate and the bottom of the rear beam/axle. i need more threads!!.....or the proper "U" bolts mine is a 97 SE. maybe i have the "U" bolts for the pre-95 maxima ?? has anyone else had this problem ?? just wondering.

i figure i need to add some washers to use as spacers (might look kinda "rigged"), or cut some more threads on the "U" bolt. probably cut more threads, but that's gonna be a real pita and i'm not looking forward to it.

This is a common problem with addco bars. You need to go out and buy new U-bolts of the proper length.

yes, i am under the brake lines. but those are not the bolts in question. i think you're talking about the "]" bolts on the side. those are fine. i'm talking about the big "U" bolts that go around the rear axle. the nuts bottomed out on the threads before the brackets got tight, so it left a 1/4-1/2 inch gap between the flat bracket and the rear axle.

it's still an improvement, but it's just a little noisy with the brackets clanking around under there. i just turn the radio up to drown out the clanking.

hey, i was just kidding in that last post i didn't drive it around with it all loose like that. i was going to cut some more threads on the "U" bolts, but they were SAE and i only have a metric tap & die set. so i ended up just putting some spacers on there and tightening that b!@#$ up. it's not the prettiest, but it works. i'll probably cut some more threads on it later.

thanks for all the help.

where can i get new "U" bolts? i saw some in home depot, but they didn't look very sturdy. the ones that came with it look like they might be about a 3/8-in diameter (?guess?) bolt, and the ones at home depot looked smaller. i'm guessing the "U" span is about 3-inches, but i can easily measure that. anyone know a good place to get new "U" bolts?

The last Addco bar I installed came with the wrong size washers. I think they have a Q/C problem going on.

the rear end does seem to be tighter now. definitely flatter in the turns now. the rear that is. really makes the front lean more noticeable. i'm in a 97 SE with stock suspension, except for FSTB and RSB.
