ticking noise...any thing to worry about?

I think I might be a car hypochondriac. I noticed a very quiet ticking noise from under the hood tonight...It ticked with all the accessories off, and the ticking increased in speed when I revved it up a bit. Could this just be something as simple as a belt perhaps? The oil level was fine BTW.

how rapid was the ticking? how quiet is very quiet? heard from inside the car or out? Im not sure...but could it be the engine knocking even? the belt theory could work if something was rubbing or out of the norm. because its not supposed to do that. give it a glimpse under the hood, check your belt tensions

Hold onto an injector, to feel for a vibration that matches the sound (I only say this because it easy to check). It could be anything really, can you be more specific than just, "a very quiet ticking noise from under the hood."
