When it's a little bit past E. When I started my car one morning on my way to school, it was on a little bit past E, than I drove for like 200 feet and the orange light went on.

yeah, mine is just barely past E too. I think some people say you can go up to 40 miles or so after the light comes on tho. I have never been brave enough to try it or run out to see how far it will go. I usually fill up before it hits E, so I never see the light anyways.

i highly suggest you do not try driving once the gas light comes on. a couple years ago i was going to pick up my g/f for lunch. after pulling out of my addition my gas light came on (first time since i owned the car that i have ever seen it come on) i was in a hurry so i figured since it was only a couple miles away i could pick her up first then fill up after we ate. i get about 1/2 mile and the gas pedal is doing nothing. i shift into neutral and coast into a sidestreet just as car is dying. had to call my girl and cancel and call my homeboy to bring me gas. it really sucked.

I live and die by that light.

It depends on how smooth your driving is. When I'm on the highway (flat, straight driving) the light wont come on until I'm on E or below. Around town (hills and curves) it may come on about 1/8" above E.

damn man, you must really live and die by the light. i have had my max for over 5 years and have only had the light come on once. i let the gas go down past e all the time and still light doesn't come on. the 1 time the light did come on, i ran out of gas almost right away.
still, gotta give you props for livin on the edge of the "e" everyday.

I can't believe anybody would let their gas tanks run down that low. It makes no sense at all to run your fuel tank down to it's limits. By 1/4 tank, I'm looking for gas.

i have a good idea, imma fill up two 2 liter soda bottles full of gas and put it in trunk then test the limits of E oh wait, gas in trunk rolling around is a bad idea!

I run the light on every week...(i know... injectors can get crap crap in them from the bottom of the tank, etc... but for me, I have never had a problem with that...)

Anyhoo, I have a solid 70km after the light is on constant. I put this to the test every week. Often I drive farther, but it depends on how hard you drive. I find that if I gas up when the light first comes on I can put in 60 litres of gas. I often wait and put in about 65 litres. I've only driven on fumes twice, and I've never been stranded. (in this car) By running a full tank, I can get a really good idea of what my mileage is like. I always drive over 700km. I often push 750, and I'm sure I could get 800km, if I'd slow down a bit.

Bottom line, yes the light comes on. For me, it is slightly below the 'E' bar. It will vary, depending on how level the car is, and cornering, etc.

I buy the same amount of gas from the same place at the same time every week.

I use almost exactly 12 gallons every week, so that's all I buy.

sometimes it helps running the tank to "E" esp. if you have bad gas, but I usually let the gauge get b/w 1/4 tank & E before refueling

Just keep track of how much gas it takes in when you fill the tank up at E. We know the 4th gen tank holds 18.5 gallons. When you fill up - if the car takes 16 gallons - you know theres about 2.5 gallons left in the tank (give or take).
