Y-Pipe Install Opinion
I live in Connecticut. Not sure what the winter will hold for us, but what's your opinion...
Should I get the Y-pipe ordered and installed even with the possible wintery weather coming? stupid question I know..
and part 2 of this question is... If i do order the y-pipe and ship it to me, what shop can install it and how much am I looking to pay for install?

I want to say the nuts are 14mm or alteast around that size. The perticular about taking the old Y-pipe off is getting around the pre-cat. You would need a socket attachment that would allow you to angle the socket. A universal joint of some sort to angle about 45 degrees.
Other than that, all you really need is a 3/8 drive ratchet, sockets, breaker bar *for removal of old nuts*, a wrench set for removing O2 sensors, a can of penetraiting oil, new gaskets, new hardware, and some free time.
I went to a mechanic shop just to see if it would be worth my time to let someone else do it. He wanted $150 to do it, and more if the rusty bolts gave him trouble.... I did it in 2 hours, and that includes a few smoke breaks....
Don't be timid, its good to do your own work..... Little girls pay people to work on their cars for them, men do their own stuff!

Don't listen to the new guy, he don't know ****. First try it yourself, put WD40 on all the bolts over night and start trying to get them loose. After hour of trying and failing go to an exhaust shop and pay the $50 to have them do it. I tried it and all the bolts were so rusted that I ruined a couple ratchets, wasted 2 hours of a very warm saturday, and was without a car for a day...

#1 WD40 sucks as penetraiting oil
#2 Cheap tools = Broken tools
#3 I bet you did your Y-pipe on a jack, or ramps.
I did fail to mention that doing this on a lift makes the whole process MUUUUCH easier, which is how I did mine.
If you DPASSINO feel mechanicly inclined enough to do this yourself, then go for it. It is not a complicated process to undertake.

Lets be nice ok guys. My take on this is that I personally have a little experience on cars and this doesn't seem like a big task to me. But if I didn't have the experience and no one to walk me through it it would be one hell of a job. So unless you feel very comfortable doing it or have someone there that does know what their doing don't do it yourself.

just to let you know how "good" i am at installing things, it took my 1.5 hours to installed a midpipe and pop charger. LOL
i did hte spark plugs ok with some supervision, when it comes to my going under the car, I will leave that to the mechanics. I like my life and my cars. LOL thanks for the help though guys.. appreciate it!

anywayZ back on topics. i suggest you follow maximadriver.com's instruction for installing y-pipe. it shouldn't be too hard if you have the right tools and patience. another fun part of moddin is actually install the mods yourself, or with a friend.
don't worry, no one is perfect, it's not a race to see who can install the y-pipe the fastest. the best part is when u accomplish the installation and actually drive it.

One problem I had when I did my installation was that the front O2 sensor hole was distorted from the welding process when it was made. The bung was appearently threaded before being welded into the tube. This caused the threads of the sensor to get damaged when I attempted to install it. I had to take the Y pipe to shop and have them chase the threads with a tap. I fixed the sensor threads with a small file. The sensors should screw in with no binding, so check the Y pipe for good threads before installing it. Btw, this was a Budget Y pipe.

More than likely, yes. Judging by where you live, (it is fairly wet there, right?), it probably doesn't take long for rust to form. The constant heating and then cooling if the exhaust doesn't help matters either.
