my car gasp for air?
i was trying to cut a mini van today and i floored the car but it was stalling on me, then it boosted a powerful pull... i have the stillen intake and 18 inch rims, does this mean i need supercharger? hahahaaha
i'm not sure if you mean that the car actually felt like it was gonna stall or if you mean that there was a hesitation. If you mean hesitation i experienced the same thing with my stillen. when i floored it there was a hesistation for a split second before the power started coming on. Once i switched to the air box mod the hesitation went away.
air box mod part deuce
did the air box mod really work ?I think the air all goes out the front of the scope because of the shape of the pipe .Another thing i came up with is that box under the battery is to collect water AGAIN because of the shape of the piping .
What do you think.

absolutely possible. good thing its raining here in LA. i'm gonna drive around and see if the filter is wet. unfortunately i wasn't able to get to the track on friday so i'll have to wait til this week to see if there was any losses or improvements. Butt dyno says i didn't lose anything over the stillen though.
It's been nasty in KC lately and today I drove on a very wet highway, sucking up everyone's water. I've got the Poorman's CAI. I checked my filter....bone dry. I did have some sand collected in the filter which I shook out. I think having sand in the filter shows that the bottom intake is pulling in air. It would be very hard for the over radiator intake to pull in sand. The air won't come in the top and go out the bottom simply because the air coming in is at a very strong velocity and the engine is sucking in the air. Sand won't be an issue in a month or so when the roads clear up (and the filter catches it).

Also with the "airbox mod" the reason why water does not get picked up through the lower hose is because of the upper scoop. Think about it, even if the lower part was completely filled, the engine would never suck the water up because there is an outlet for the air to come through (ontop of the radiator). Some of the "other" cars that have filters that are down and low have these problems because they do not have this second, higher up intake port that allows the air to flow and not the water. Our engine does not have the sucking capacity to vaccuum water all the way up into the engine in this configuration of 2 inlets. One more thing, for those of you with the Stillen lip, I was looking at mine which is not installed yet, and that lower "nostril" would make a great intake ram air port. I'll just have to cast some fiberglass or other material to connect the vaccuum hose to the scoop.
mine did that stalling shtuff while trying to roadkill an 8 banger Stanger.......I figured cuz my gas tank was almost empty.....(the lite was on) and the car was pulling so the gas wasn't getting picked up but now I think it was maby my JWT.......
when doing the custon cAi
do u ahve to have the stock setup what i mean by that is stock airbox..
i currently have a cone intake and i left the bottom half of the air box in so the cone sorta rests on it u can say
i figured the air would b coming in and the warm air would somewhat b avoided by doing this method...
Now my question is can i still take the resonator out and do this mod while leaving my cone in
thnx

By closing the stock airbox you get pressure waiting to get into the engine and with cone style intakes you dont have any pressure per se' so in theory you will always have air to breathe with the stock air box and even more air on tap with the 'custom' ram air deal coupled with the stock airbox assembly........my $0.02
2morrow I am gonna perfrom the air box mod and see what happens......My gf has a 2000 Celica GT and she could actually take me on take off(5spd) I have looked at her airbox and it has a little flap that closes and opens when the throttle is opend and I am thinking the reason for the 'flap' is so that the airbox always has posititve pressure. Also note that the flap is before the filter on the incoming way......meaning any incoming air has to pass the flap b4 it gets anywehre in the airbox assembly........hmmm.....makes sense......
