Power seat problem

I have a 97 GLE. My driver's power seat is not working properly. The other day I moved the entire seat all the way forward to make room for some furniture I bought from Ikea. Now the seat won't move forward or back. The other functions work, I can raise and lower the seat, and angle the back of the seat forward or back. I checked under the seat and there is nothing blocking the seat. Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Check the tracks real close for anything that can block it. Even a penny in the track has stopped other people's. Can you hear the motor trying to move the seat at all? Also check around the motors to make sure the wiring is right. It's possible you disconnected something by accident.

I can't hear anything from the motor. Is it possible that the fuse for the seat is blown, or the motor is dead? Which fuse is linked to the seat?

I doubt it is the fuse, because I doubt you'd have the other functions still working (I doubt the power seat has dedicated lines/fuses for different functions). Check around the motors to make sure they are plugged in to the harness. It may just be easier to pull the seat out so you can flip it over to check things. Only 4 bolts hold it in, and I think they are 14mm (it's been awhile since I had mine out to mount a holster). Don't forget to unplug the harness before you yank the seat completely out!
If all connections are tight, the motor may have gone bad. But I've never heard of a power seat motor going out. Not like they are really used often or long.
Maybe someone else has some ideas or experiences.

Dave

tap the motor under the seat with the butt of a screwdriver or small hammer. usually gets the motor to work. my passenger seat "freezes" occassionaly once every few months, but this does the trick.
