Dragging noise

I get this noise that sounds like it is coming from my front left wheel. When I am going under 15 mph It sounds like my wheel is dragging on a piece of the body. I can't see any problems when I get out to look however. Also when I drive over 70 the car shakes. I think it may have something to do with a wheel bearing. I just don't know enough to diagnose the problem and would like to try and fix it myself. If you guys don't think thats possible what should I have my mechanic look for? Also... does anyone know the average lifespan of the 4th gen engines? Mine is at 119000 right now. Another problem I noticed was today (first time it has done this to me) I was accelerating from a light (normal acceleration, none of that gung ho stuff) the car wen't almost nowhere and then it took off. I haven't had any other problems with the transmission. I am wondering if it could be cheap gas. I let my brother borrow the car and he put a tank of regular in it. Last question is... Do gas and oil treatments that you pour in actually work or do they just compound on a problem if it is there? I have heard differing opinions from mechanics in the past.
