Strange piece on the stock air system...
Can anyone tell me what is the black plastic pipe (about 3" diameter)that connects to the stock ram air scoop, about a foot from the inlet muzzle? It connects to the bottom of the plastic ram air tube and runs straight down and turns right to connect to some plastic box.
That connects to a closed box under the battery. It is there for resonance tuning and sound cancellation.
One option is to construct what is called an Ooglie Stock Cold Air Intake (OSCAI). This involves removing the elbow and connecting a 2" hose to the bottom of the intake scoop. This hose is then directed through a hole in the plastic splash guards under the engine. This allows the engine to take in more cold air from outside the car.
I've been running an OSCAI with a K&N panel filter for many years with no problems.
