Dissapointment with axle replacement

I tried to swap both my driver and passenger side axles out this weekend. I purchased both sides from raxles.com. I was able to do everything but actually "pop" the axle off. I was able to remove the hub from the axle spindle and everything, however I just couldn't actually pry the axle off. This happened on both sides. I ended up putting everything back together and having a local mechanic do it (for $90 @ 2 hours at $45 per hour).

Its a 95 max 5 speed with over 210,000 miles, with the original axles.

So to say the least I'm dissapointed. I bought the more expensive axles because I thought I'd be saving on labor. I was able to do my own springs and struts, but I just couldn't do this job.

Any thoughts or hints on what I could have used to remove the axles?

did you use a hammer? sometimes they get stuck in there.
I'm not sure but I think tranny has to be in N.
Did you watch your mechanic do it?

210,000 on original axles? Very good. My 93 Maxima SE 5sp is around 224,000 with original axles...replaced cv boot 2x each side so far.

It does take some force to get the driver side out. There's a C clip holding it in there. Just gotta really tug. Lean back. A partner can also use a long flat screwdriver to pry the axle out.

The passengerside should be easier, as there's no c clip. Be sure u unbolt the 3 bolts at the middle of the axle.

When you pop the axles back in, put the end axle nut on part way, and bang the axle in with rubber mallet. It'll make sure the c clip made it in. Also, be careful of the tranny oil seal. They tear easily.

Bettcha you had the same problem I did. I unbolted the axle from the bearing bracket that's about halfway down it, but it just wouldn't budge.

I had to unbolt that bracket from the block, and pull the bracket out with the axle. Before I tried that, I pulled so hard that I seperated the inner CV joint all together.
