Change shift points- automagic?

Is it possible to change the shift points for the 4th gens? also the downshift rate. I'm assuming this would be possible via a re-programmed tranny computer, but I have no idea who does this... Any ideas?

Thanks... I saw it on Cattman's website. My question, though-- would it work in a '99.5 Max, or is one available? i will call today to check, but I doubt it... anyone else know of a tranny computer upgrade for the 99.5 maxima?

Nick.

auto tranny in my wife's Geo prizm lsi ( made by Toyota ) is bilion times more smart and smooth - the power is always there without unneccesary shifting - both cars are 120K mile mark.

But driving situations like that is exactly the reason why they gave you the OD off button. You're just being lazy.

The tranny does suck and of course there's the torque steer issues. Both problems shouldn't be that hard to fix for a car that cost so much.

What changes are made over the stock shift pattern ?

My 96 gle needs a more sensitive downshift in the sub 3000rpm range.
When on the highway (80km or 50mph) and you get on it it works fine. Plenty of go to be had !

But in town under 50k or 30mph giving the same throttle input causes it to lug.

I was thinking of the manualmatic system talked about here a while back. My idea is a half manualmatic system.

There would be a button (or lever) on the shifter (or wheel of prefered) that could be pushed to make the car drop a gear (if permitable - overreving) . In town it would be a great add on. I'm not sure if the whole electronic interface of the manulamatic system would need to be installed. I thought about the manualmatic system and it would be a great option to play with in 'race mode' but for everyday driving you would have to select the higher gears also. If it had a 'drop button' that would be perfect IMO and i'd but one

I wonder if the 'drop button' could be added to the system ?
Would have to check with the person who makes the system.

Any thoughts ? Anyone have any detailed info on how the tranny computer works ? The wiring harness info ?

If the person who makes the maunalmatic controller is reading this, do you think this would be a hard add-on ?

Thanks , martin

that was about to be my suggestion.. my tranny no longer hunts for gears in traffic since it's controlled with my cruise control buttons .. that and a vb mod is good times

You guys are expecting way to much. What do you honestly expect? The auto tranny to be so good that it will read your mind and know your every move? If that's the case, just buy a manual. Geez, this car is a 1995 design, which means everything was pretty much finalized and done with in the 93/94 timeframe. The Internet was just starting, and most people didn't even have computers yet, but you expect miracle supercomputer tranny shift maps? Not gonna happen.

Newer automatics are a lot better. Our 2002 Toyota Highlander is pretty freakin good almost to the point where you never even need to touch the shifter. That's what happens in close to a decade as computing technology advances.

I won't give up my manual without a fight though.

The full maunalmatic setup is great for having fun.
I'd like to see the 'drop button' integrated so the car drive like normal but the button will drop it downa a gear if pushed. No need to upshift.

Auto upshift and downshifting but with the drop button for downshifting when you want.

If it can be integraded i'm going to get one. Best of both worlds

I've had both automatic and manual transmissions in my car. I've had no problems with them, so I guess I'm someone who doesn't know that Nissan transmissions suck. And really, if you can't be bothered to hit the OD off button, then you are too being lazy.
