High pitch squeal coming from front left wheel.

I'm getting a high pitch squeal coming from the front left wheel anytime I go forward or reverse (ie. when the vehicle is in motion). The sound does not occur when I turn my steering wheel left or right. Also, when I apply my breaks the sound does not increase but deminishes as the vehicle slows down. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking maybe my break pad is going out. My car is a 1999 SE and the milage is 50,200 and I have not replaced the stock break pads that came with the car. If it matters, I am the original owner. Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated as this noise is driving my insane.

Definately time to change the pads. Sounds like the sensor squealing, telling you to change the pads.

ok, thanks for the reply. I'll get them looked at later today. Also, what is the expected life of a stock break pad anyways?

I have a high pitched sqeek when I first rolling the car after it's been sitting idle. But it goes away after 1/2 mile. I think the brakes are hanging a little bit. I took a look at the pads when I swapped suspensions this week, they look fine.

Take off the tire and look between the calipers and see how much pad is left on the shoes.

Well, just changed my front pads and that did the trick. They were pretty worn out. Thanks again for the help.
