Indiglo gauges problem
Indiglo gauges problem
installed the indiglo gauges......followed the directions that were on custommaxima.com, it says to wire it into the little dimmer logo wire, so i did that and the gauges went on for a little while, then went out. so i took the wire and spliced it into the cruise control, again the gauges were on for a little while, and again they shut off. anybody know what could be wrong or anyone have any suggestions? any help would be much appreciated
I got the indiglos (thx Tino), but my car is a '99; anyway, I wired them to the dimmer as instructed. In my Max, there are two wires going to the dimmer switch: one black, one red. I spliced into the wrong wire the first time and my gauges would work only when I turned the dimmer all the way down, so there were no other interior lights working while the gauges were lit. Switched wires, and now the gauges stay on regardless of where the dimmer switch is set.
Sorry, I forgot which wire is the right one...of course, all this is moot if your '03 is wired differently.
Also, are you sure you secured the ground wire for the gauges? That might be the cause of the problem.
Good luck...

my car is a 96gle, i followed those directions exactly....my car has 3 wires going to the dimmer, a red and black i think, and also a blue. the ground is secure, its around one of the bolts behind the gauges, so i dunno. ill check out the ground a little better tommorrow i guess. thanks

When I installed my REVERSE GLOW gauges in my 97 I didn't bother with any of the wires behind the gauges, I ran my dimmer control that came with the indiglos over into the ash tray and tapped the VCC to the dimmer by the stereo....I did this because i have an external dimmer anyways so I didn't care if the interior light control dimmed the indiglos or not. I did have a few problems of them sticking, but nothing a little double sided tape couldn't fix...it does take time and patience to get them just right. Also i found that if you remove all but the two closest to center "back lights" you can still see your Tach and Spedo needles without a problem at night. but you don't get an overpowering light from behind the layovers....not sure if this helps at all, but that's jsut what i did....

YES and it makes me more mad than anything else right now. Ive tried like 4 times too. the temp and gas gauge stick. ive sanded the gauges, used double sided tape, even tried the sticky goo stuff that came w/ the gauge rings and they still get stuck in the middle. im gonna try hot glue as soon as i get up the patience again. Let me know if you find a fix
Just make sure that you get the tape right near the base of the needles. I'm surprized your temp and fuel gagues are sticking, those are usually a little more forceful when the need to move but the spedo and tach are fairly free moving.
But yeah, slide the gagues on, and then bend them up (they won't break as I'm sure you figured out by now). And get the double stick tape (make sure it's just the really thin 3M stuff) right near the base of the needle. I taped as much as i could all over just to be safe, I even sorta taped the old black gagues to the plastic housing the best I could. Like I said, it takes a little patience and someone who's done them before would be a great help too.
I guess if you really wanted to, and depending on your gagues, you could punch through the layovers and use the stock screws to secure the layovers. That way the gauges are secured in all the right spots. Hope that helps some.
REMEMBER! BE PATIENT!

after installing & adjusting, all of my gauge needles work fine, 'cept for the speedo which is 14mph ahead of the actual speed....i figure that's close enough without having to pull the whole thing out for a fifth time.
my needles were sticking at first but then i pulled them off and removed the stock gauges, now they work fine...except they still dont light up, but i think the problem with mine is the gauges itself, b/c i hooked them up to my battery and my amplifier in the trunk and they still refused to go on...but as far as needles sticking they all work properly once i removed the stock gauges behind them
