How many have replaced cv axle?

How many of you guys have replaced cv axles? How many people have had problems after replacing them? I'm wondering what percentage of us have had a failed rebuilt cv axle. I'm suspecting that my axle from autozone may be defective. I have another thread going about this problem right now so I won't post details here. Just the poll.

You should have gotten your axles from www.raxles.com

They are all new joints, not rebuilt.

Replaced mine a while ago (120,000 miles) . . . also purchased from AutoZone. Only problem I encountered was the drivers-side one they ordered was for a limited-slip, which I do not have. Had to wait two days for correct one to arrive. So far, no problems.

replaced cv axle. had to replace again due to problem. - This was a Raxles Axle.

But Marti proved to me with pictures of my dissected axle and other things that it was the Sprint Springs causing it - not the axle itself.

So buy a Raxles axle - 100% lifetime warranty and the best Customer Service ever.

(PS: I got B&G Springs, and haven't had any failures since)

I replaced the passanger side axle with no problems. Got the new *remanufactured* axle from NAPA. no more then 1,000 miles on it with no problems (knock on wood). I'm replacing the driverside outer boot very soon and im not looking forward to it.

Mine was spitting out black grease for the boots on both sides. The grease was getting out onto my rims, it was really messy. So I replaced both of the axles and boots at about 124k. It runs like there was nothing wrong with it in the first place.

You know, that's not the first time I've heard of problems after getting Sprints. I have Sprint's as well and was wondering how long your cv axels lasted before you had problems. I also replaced my cv axels about 7 months before the drop.

I replaced the passenger side a couple of months ago. I bought a remanufactured one from Autozone. No problems. I have got to do the driver side soon. I'll likely get it again from Autozone.

It was about a year.

Of course, several factors may have contributed:
1) I live in Downtown Seattle - the roads are notoriously bad here.
2) I am SC'ed - the extra torque on the axles may have helped cause the problem.
3) Riding on low-profile tires may have caused some of the harhness and issues also.

Ah...I guess that would do it then. Thanks.

I'm calling Marty at Raxles tomorrow to have mine replaced. My OEM went out on me a few months ago, I replaced it with a rebuilt one which crapped out, and then the Raxles one which is now shot. Thank god for the lifetime warranty. The Raxles one lasted about 1.5 months, thanks to my Sprint springs and heavy 18's. I'm not changing either the springs or the wheels, so the axle will keep getting replaced...

Technically, there's no such thing as a CV axle.

A CV joint is part of a drive axle, which is what we're all talking about...

replaced mine 2 weeks after i got my license (july, 2002), cuz i spinned out on highway avoiding a f*ckin car who did not check his blind spot. braked hard, hit the side of the curve, max went to dealership at 70k or so for new CV and stuff here and there. cost about $1000 or so.

but again...back then i didn't know jack about car.

Well my boot cracked on passenger side driveshaft/axle ( boo to PeTeRtheEaTeR ...so correct these days ) , then the boot slowly fell off till there was no boot left. then it ran until it had dirt caked on it and completely bare metal...then after awhile it finally started making a cracking noise , so i finally replaced.

$65 at Pep Boys. Been running for about 8-10K w no problems w/ lifetime warranty. The only thing I regret right now was not taking pics at the 222222 mark on the odometer (she's at 222544 right now, '95), and 222 on the trip meter....then maybe revvin at 2222 RPM's....Oh well...guess I'll wait for 333333 miles on her. Don't think she'll last 4 more years tho.
