Muffler Tip
Muffler Tip
I bought a 6 inch muffler tip (3.5 diameter) the other day that I am going to apply to my stock muffler. Is it possible to cut the outlet pipe on the stock muffler a bit so that it sits a little bit further back inside the tip, so thats its not so visible? Willthis cause any problems with the exhaust or make noises or anything like that? Please don't tell me to get a aftermarket muffler or catback exhaust or any of that. I am not racing my car and I don't want my car to sound like a harley.

I just want to warn you about one thing. A few months ago I stumbled upon a maxima, a 2k, that sounded like farting civic. How is that possible you say? He welded on a ~3.5" tip onto his stock muffler. I'm not kidding the thing sounded like a fart can equiped civic...

when adding a tip to a stock muffler the sound will stay the same. no more no less.
I'm sure that guy had a resonated tip then if it sounded like a civic. I mean those civics sound awful but I personally feel a max with a performance muffler sounds like crap as well. I also don't really need performance and a 3hp gain is worthless especially since I have 18's. I mean if you do the whole exhaust system with y pipe and all that its fine but a muffler alone is pointless unless you just like that rediculous loud sound. I do however like the sound that intake makes and I plan to add intake an soon.
I had a similar tip when i had stock exhuast, though it was only 3", not 3.5...
Doesnt look ricey IMHO, dont listen to the haters...
Obviously i dont have that tip on their now, running dual 3.5"X8"...And my car doesnt sound like a civic at all, you just have to know how to pick out the right muffler. Any straigh through designed muffler will give you that raspy farty noise, while a chambered wont...

I have 4" tips, IMO rolled tips are the only way to go.
My car doesnt sound like a Civic/John Deere. Sounds raw and aggressive.
When EricA had his Y-pipe/Stock bpipe/stock muffler/resonated tip, it sounded really bad. Sounded high pitched and farty. Its gotten better now and will sound really good once he gets a bpipe and switches to a flowmasters muffler.
