Change

Bought a 97 GXE Maxima about a month ago, pretty much stock. However it has about 75000+ miles on the Ode... The oil had not been change in awhile (not fault of mine), remedied that on sunday (what a job, still has all the guards and locks, like I said NEWBIE).

I happen to know that the previous owner of the car only used 89 Octane in the tank and just wondered if the sudden change would be offsetting to the operation of the fuel processing.

Things Done: Fresh Oil Change (SynBlend - next time fully syn) Fuel system flush

Thing to do: Fuel filter change, spark plug & wire change, trans change or refresh,

Any other suggestion would be helpful. This is my first nissan I am kinda in love (let the honeymoon last forever !!!)

You might need to replace the knock sensor soon...It's been working overtime with that 89octane. Seriously.
That's Maxima abuse...and we won't have it here on the org.
lol

Thanks Man!

I will try and change to the higher octane and see the result also change that knock sensor. I know the in FL the second higher oct.. is 89 so I the gas prices get to high can I just buy the 89 and use a additive to boost the rating

know this is a dumb question, but, Is the boost a instaneous burst or for the duration of the tank...

PBK in answering

Buying the octane booster will end up making it more expensive for gas.

89 Octane = $1.50 (just an example)
+ Octane Booster = $4.00
Ending up around $19 for a 10 gallon fill-up.

91 Octane = $1.60
Ends up being $16 for a 10 gallon fill-up.
