Sylvania bulbs... Cool Blues vs. Xtravisions??? what is the difference?

I'm looking for replacements and it's down to Cool Blues, Blue Visions and Xtravisions..

From what i read, people seem to find the Cool Blues and Blue Visions nearly identical.. some give more preference to one of the two.. but what about the Xtravisions?
how do they compare, in terms of price, color and road illumination?

on a related topic... what is a more yellow bulb.. hella yellowstar or sylvania all weather?

thanks

oh yea.. where can i buy them online for a good price? pepboys and autozone near me don't carry either one.. and if anyone has any pics of the xtravisions, that'd be great

As far as the BlueVisions, it gives off more of a "whiter" light, close to HID. As compared to the XtraVisions, I'm not quite sure what type of light output this bulb gives off, but I know it's slightly less expensive than the BlueVisions.

ok, lets see if i got this right

supposedly the Xtravisions are plain halogen lights like the factory bulbs but put down a lot more light on the road.

the Cool Blues are whiter.. and are not as good in poor weather.

don't know how Blue Visions compare to either one.

Cool blues suck. I don't like them whatsoever. The only bulb worth getting that isn't real real expensive are the sylvania silverstars. Otherwise go with PIAA but you'll probably want to upgrade you harness so it can take the higher wattage. I almost prefer to stay with the stock bulb unless you get HID.

i am deciding to go with the Xtravisions to attract less attention over the Cool Blues.. and get some All weather, yellow fog light bulbs.. should be the best available halogen bulb setup for purpose of better illumination.

I've been looking around for a replacent bulb for my drivers side. I saw the silverstars at canadian tire. They claim the light output is in the 4000k range 'hid like'. I sure there's no substitution for hid but are the silverstars going to give more light than the stock bulbs ?

Thanks , martin

^ The silverstars might be a little bit better in dry conditions, but when the ground is wet, the stock bulbs would most likely perform better. I think your best bet would be Xtravisions.

edit: oo 1000 posts

there is a huge amount of posts on this subject..

seems like Xtravisions are the best for visibility.. Cool blues are whiter than stock, but less visiblity on the road.. same goes for Blue Visions.. and the Silverstars are more expensive and are pure white but road visibility is not so good.. they are just for show.

Where can i buy the Xtravisions ? I did a search on ebay and ebay motors and didn't get any hits. Are they under a brand name ?

Do these require a wiring harness upgrade ? If so what is upgraded ? I'm an electrician by trade so i'll so the mods myself.

Thanks , martin

i have the xtravision bulbs (9004) on my 3rd gen, and the light output is amazing, it luminates the road a little further and a little wider too, but the light is stock color, no white of what so ever.

The best bulbs out there are by global premier the are called XD5, They are sold on ebay, I bought PIAA and wasnt happy with the color or difference in visiblity and paid $75, which was the biggest waste of money. On the other hand the XD5's are the closest thing to the color of HID's. Way better than PIAA's, Sylanias or anything out there besides true HID's.

Yeah I agree. I also have a set of PIAA and the color sucks, and I see worse then stock with them. They look only a tiny bit whiter then stock. They do last a while which is the only advantage, but they cost 80$. All of those cheap bulbs like hyperwhite that have a slight blue tint to them look good but only last like 4 months. I have heard the XD5 look good, but I don' know how long they will last.

I just got a set of Xtravisions from Pepboys for like 22$ for the pair. I am quite impressed with them. The color is OEM, but these things really light up the road. The beam pattern is nice and wide and the range and light output increased greatly. I can actually tell a difference.. They illuminate the road better just by themselves alone than my OEM bulbs with fogs..

Great bulbs, won't make you stand out in terms of color but they do their job great.

Only way up from here is HID for me.

Martin, regular auto stores, or chain stores should have these. They are Sylvania Xtravisions.

I bought & returned the XD5's. Too blue for me & light output was poor in wet or limited visibility conditions. The pictures on the EBay linked website are inaccurate, if not deceptive regarding the light output on the road. I do not recommend these bulbs.

I am back to stock 9004's now, but may try the Xtravisions at some point.

I disagree completly.... the XD5's are crap. One of my headlights burned out after about a month and both of my foglights have blown out now. I bought them on group deal here on the org hoping they would be ok... but I feel as if I have gotten ripped off due to their super short lifespan. The look good granted... but I want my money 40 bucks back I spent on both of those sets of bulbs.

The main difference is in their Kelvin rating.
