Definatly worth it. First, blocks sun fmo beating on seats. Second, if your tiniting so that pepole can't see in then you might as well tinit everything. And most important to me, I think it just looks a lot better with all windows on the car tinted.

i have had my sunroof tinted for the past two years and no problems. . . and it is definitely worth it. . .
What's the purpose of tinting the sunroof if there is a cover to cover it??? When it's covered there's no point to opening it because you won't have any air anyway, I like to drive with the sunroof tilted up and the tint prevents the sun from beating on me. . .
definitely do it.

I was thinking of doing this too, but I want to hear more about the cracking issue first.

who do you have looking inside your car from above?
also, one of the points of having the sunroof is to create a spacious atmosphere.... which will not be there if you tint it. I think it's like welding down a hard top on a convertible- still there but useless.....

I may be thinking of my other car, but since I'm not sitting in the Max right now I can't be sure but doesn't the sunroof already have a slight tint to it, like privacy glass?

The way I see it tinting the sunroof with something that isn't too dark will still give you the spacious atmosphere without the blinding light in your eyes

from some old post. From what i read, its a wive's tale. but you never know

I've heard of this on new Volvos going thru car washes (not even added tint). I think some other cars will do it too.. although I have not heard of the max doing it. I'm sure the shop just doesnt want the liability.

I used to share maxima2k2's point of view, but then I thought about it and decided that I would like a bit less light.

My windows are 35%, while the moonroof is tinted with 20%.

i never heard anything about the cracking issue, mine has been done for 2 yrs. def. a plus. The cover is okay but i like to have some light in but dont want to burn my arm at the same time, also good when you have the roof tilted upward. i used 20% go for it.

Your windows will not crack due to any tint. NONE. 95-99 has ALL TEMPERED WINDOWS. The only windows that will blow are non tempered double or triple paned glass (which are not in cars). Being it is the law to have tempered glass in a car, nobody has any worries of tint. I promise. And as far as tinting the SUNroof.....Well I will leave it at that SUN SUN SUNroof.

I just tinted mine 5% a few days ago and I love it. I used to never have the shade open because the sun was so strong. Now I leave it open all day and it I provides some nice light, but doesn't heat you to death. I am very happy I did mine.

some1 told me that the reason why it owuld crack is because if the shade is closed...its trapping a lot of heat in that little area, or some crazy stuff like that...

tint sunroof

I have my windows done 20% all the way around. I also had my roof tinted but I went with 5%. The cracking thing might be a problem if you live in Texas or Arizona or something. Down here in HOTlanta it isn't a problem at all. Most people in the import scene here do tint their roof. it's nice to ride with the cover back but still be shaded out in the car. Do it, you'll love it.

I would say...pointless. Just close the cover(?) and that blocks out the sun!

Not trying to dogg on you or anything, but how hot does it get in Fargo, ND? Lots of people live in really hot climates, not just summer but all year long.. every summer I'm hatin the heat in my car, and I don't like to use A/C that much.. Just curious if you see 90 or 100 degress in Fargo.. some of the people that have tinted their sunroofs live in places like Texas or Socal where most of the year is beating hot sun

In my opinion tinting the sunroof is pointless. The whole idea behind a sunroof is to let the sun in when you want. If it does get too hot or bright and you do not want it, then just close the sunroof cover from the inside.

What's the point of having a sunroof if you are going to try and block out the sun anyway! That is what the cover is for. You could have saved yourself the money on the sunroof option and not gotten one instead of taking the trouble to get a sunroof and then spending more to tint it when there's a perfectly usable cover on the inside.

What's wrong with that?

I do like having light come through my sunroof, but I don't like it when the sun's at an angle and blinding me. When I get my windows tinted, I'll probably tint the sunroof maybe around 35% so that the light still gets in, but it won't blind me. It's like having sun glasses on the car so you don't have to wear them Also, during the summer I would like to leave it tilted open so that air gets in, but it won't heat up the leather to death.

DITTO, definitely!

I've had mine tinted 15% smoke for over 6 months in HOT Florida sun & had NO problems with cracking glass. Do it, you won't regret it.

(The only thing I would do differently if I was to do it over is go with 5% limo tint on the sunroof instead of 15% - Why? Unlike your side windows, the sunroof takes more direct light & will seem comparatively lighter if you use the same shade tint as on the sides)

-my .02 cents-

You guys are crazy to think that the sunroof will crack because you tint it. Are you afraid to tint your windows too? In fear that they might crack? I live in a hot state and leave my sunroof cover closed all day and had no problems.

I work as crew on a motoryacht, so I'm not usually land-based, (usually moving around/live onboard) so that's why I haven't shown my face much. (Sadly, my car's usually in storage) :-(

I always love the sharing of ideas and common interests plus the chance to meet new people at meets/racing events, so I hope to get out there soon one of these days!

Cheers,

-K-

To get back on track, tomorrow I plan to tint my sunroof 5-10%, because someone brought up a good point on how the sun shines directly from above and the light is a bit more harsh from teh sunroof, not like the windows where light comes in from an angle. Hmm, well it makes sense to me at least lol
